Will Speed the Ride get lapbars?

all the other Premiers have so i was wondering if this one would get lapbars too
I hear its smooth as butter so i doubt they would drop that kind of money into something like that.

it is real smooth i wonder why they put otsrs on it in the first place though it doesnt really need them there kind of restricting

No. There is only ONE curve, and it hasent been baging people up too bad, so its not worth the money or downtime (since Vegas really doesn't have an off season) to replace them
John,

The ride does in fact have more than one curve.  After the second LIM launch, the ride does a quick s-turn. While this curve isn't as intense as the first curve, it can produce some mild laterals from time to time.

It would not surprise me in the least to see lap bars installed on that coaster next year. When I was out there earlier this year, I rode it close to 30 times the first day I was there. Out of those 30 or so rides, I only had one ride that produced some minor laterals.  While I didn't find it to be uncomfortable, I heard others complain about it as we exited the ride.

I don't think they will because of the close proximities between the trains and the walls of the tunnel, as well as some of those trees at the bottom of the tower.

But, on the other hand, you never know!

"ok everyone go ahead and pull down on your shoulder restraint so you feel nice and stuck!"

Clearances really shouldn't be a problem, if the Speed trains are like the Flight of Fear trains. The FOF trains have high enough sides on them that lateral clearance really isn't a problem 'cause the only outward direction you can put your arms (unless you're REALLY tall) is straight up in the air.

It dosnt need them. The ride is smooth, except for the first curve, and even that isnt that bad. I've always wondered why that curve was  so smooth compared, to say, FOF because FOF does a maneuvar very similar and you practically boke your neck. I think premier decided to bank the trun around the center of gravity instead of the usuall "oh, lets just turn the track any which way we like".

How much more floorless can they get?

Or maybe its simply Las Vegas Casinos. Remember back when Manhattan Express opened? They had lots of problems with the ride in addition to its roughness. I'm sure other developers didnt want to have that happen again.

maybe Nascar Cafe was really strict on making it smooth? who knows?

Another one I'm wondering about is Mad Cobra because that has a different OTSR that holds your head in place so it doesn't bang around.
Does anyone know how much the installation of lap bars cost for the Premier coaster trains?  I don't think that they would see a big enough increase in riders by introducing lap bars to justify paying for the retrofit and having the down time.  I had no problem with head banging on this coaster, and I didn't hear many people complain about it.  Also the way they sell tickets for Speed, I don't think they would make more money.  If you plan on riding it once no matter what, it really doesn't matter how good or bad the ride is.  Otherwise you buy the all day pass and you can use it 2,3 or 100 times, either way they already have your money.  I say we won't see lapbars on Speed but every other Premier will have them soon.
I just rode Speed: The Ride over Thanksgiving Break and it was incredibly smooth. The OTSR's didn't bother me one bit, although I think the vertical spike would be better with lap bars.

That launch into that sharp, overbanked turn was fantastic!

I believe the smoothness of the ride will lead to lap bars. I rode it a few times, and didn't get tossed around at all. This may allow for lap bars, and a more exciting ride as there could be more open space around you. Those who rode Flight of Fear at PKI before and after the lap bar installation know what I'm talking about. It makes a big difference.
I also rode it over Thanksgiving Break and there is no need for lapbars. It is incredibly smooth around the first turn and through the loop.

BTW, do some of the Premier coasters open rough or do they not age well?

Every Premier opens rough and as it ages it stays the same but all Premiers have soft OTSR now instead of the hard ones like when they opened. Lap bars are still the best though.
I thought I read someplace that Mad Cobra was either SBNO or dismantled?! Anybody know for sure?
