but I dont think an interstate will spawn an amusement park. If anything, the opposite would be true.

The city I live in outside of Cleveland is a perfect example. When I-71 first opened (I want to say late 50's or early 60's), the Greater Cleveland area was easy to define. Now, we might say it ends in Brunswick, a city that didn't get its charter until the mid-70's, but the next city south is growing north and east, which kind of makes it an Akron suburb as well. Go down the I-77 coridor from Cleveland to Akron and it is "filling in" as well. The area as a whole is slowly growing into this giant metroplex that includes Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Lorain, etc.
Granted, we already have several parks here, but they couldn't have grown if it wasn't for the expansion. In fact, I'd be willing to be SFGAm cropped up because Mariott saw the potential and growth associated with the freeway.
I-69 connects a lot of markets, and will likely help to grow them, but not create new ones.

The potential of the tollway and the fact that Gurnee is pretty much geographically midway between two major cities. Chicago and Milwaukee. Its the same reason that Gurnee Mills was constructed.
