Wild West World owners spending $10 million on rides with Chance-Morgan and Zamperla

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Thomas Etheredge plans to spend $10 million with two companies to buy amusement rides for his Wild West World amusement park. Some of that business will go to a Wichita company that has an international reputation for building amusement rides, Chance Morgan Inc.

How can I call them cheap crap? Look how often their rides have major problems. Look how often they're down. Parks like them because they're cheap, but then end up with big headaches. It's really too bad, because there are very few decent (as in reliable) flat rides that are also affordable for these small parks.

Can they really get 25 to 30 rides plus installation for 10 mil? That sounds like mostly kiddie rides.
There's almost always a Power Surge at the MN State Fair.

I was looking for the quote where this guy would say, "We're just gonna take our Chances!" (ba-DOOM crasssssssssh)

Cedar Point's Camp Snoopy is almost entirely Zamperla rides (except the Tilt-a-Whirl and Woodstock Express), and I never see any of those rides down.
CP is lucky then. I've heard enough horror stories about Zamperla rides to make me realize you get what you pay for.

For $10 million, I assume that the rides are not park models........but rather carnival models.
What makes you say that Crazy Horse? Do you think it is that much cheaper to throw in the whole trailor, and bracing systems, not to mention platforms and stairs to load/unload then to just put some flanges on the bottom of the ride, and include a diagram of where footers should go?
Six Flags Marine World has a bunch of Zamperla rides. The only one that has had problems is the prototype of the Hawk 48 "Hammerhead" which was down for a whole season. Other than that, all have been more reliable than the two Huss and one Chance flat they had.
CHANCE ZIPPER ALL THE WAY... one of the oldest.. and one with NOT so many problems.. well yea sum.. but nothing as bad as CHAOS.. chaos used to be soo good.. and then all of a sudden it just went downhill its a shame.. but yea chance zipper, and pharoahs fury:)
All of a sudden? Nope. They've ALWAYS been problem children.

They work well as long as you're committed to keeping the bolt tensions just so on a daily basis and the manual latch and release mechanisms to the left rear of each carriage. Otherwise, bad things can happen. Very bad.

If they were to just add soft pads under each chaos, they could forget all the maintenence on the restraints. That would just add an element of suprise into the mix, which fits right in under the name Chaos.

Yes, used carnival model rides are cheaper than park model rides.

<- agrees with Moosh re: Volare...

Wasn't the Kite Flyer proof ENOUGH that those restraints are horrible? The THROAT is rarely a good place to feel "restrained"....;)

Nate, I thought you hatted TGG, Now you hate Zamperla too?

Chuck, who's never met a ride from either he didn't like.

Uh, when did I say I hated TGG?

This park sounds like they're getting a deal. $10 mil. for 25 - 30 rides. I just want to comment on some things I've seen in past comments. The Chaos has been discontinued. It's too bad, though. But I guess Chance decided after 9 years it was time to go. The Inverter..now why hate the Inverter? Sure it's loosing its amazingness (is that a word), but it's still fun. And someone said to stay away from Chaos'. Even if Chance hadn't discontinued the Chaos, why stay away? The only type of Chaos rides that I've seen require all this "work" is park model chaos rides. Whenever I go to a park, a Chaos ride is down. But, if you stop on by Clementon park where we have a portable model, it's always running. Why? It's easier to maintain portables, everything is right there on one trailer, easy to find. And let's not forget to mention, the portables models look really nice.

I haven't ridden too many Zamperla rides, actually, I can't even think of one. But I've seen quite a few that I would love to try: Disk`O, Skater, Power Surge.

Anyways, with Chance being my favorite Flat Manufacturer, I'm glad to see them putting out some rides. Maybe even some of their prototypes??

I would agree that Zamperlas' flat rides and kiddie rides are a lot of fun and are very reliable. However, as someone who has worked with their Volare for going on four seasons now, cannot give the same accolades to their coasters. I'm not sure how the new models are working, since we do have the prototype, but ours is just full of small design flaws which create big problems with reliablility. However, I could be judging too harshly; I haven't really heard any bad things about the Zamperla Kiddie Coasters or Wild Mouse rides. Just hope this park doesn't get a Volare.

Yeah, that particular one is very dependable and reliable. Nothing bad has ever happened to that one like, say, someone falling out last week.

And let's not forget to mention, the portables models look really nice.

Yeah, they look very nice if your park is a dirt field. Otherwise, park models are clearly superior in appearance.

Next time you should pick a favorite company that isn't so crappy. I'd hate to know what your favorite coaster manufacturer is.

I could tell you plenty of horror stories about the Zamperla kiddie coasters.

Of late Chance designed rides are a ride mechanics nightmare (unless you're dreaming of a LOT of overtime). It's interesting to note that the early rides, and the ones that they came with the purchase of Allen Herschell don't give them any problems like the recent high tech stuff. What do they sell the most of? C P Huntingtons and carousels. The sold THIRTY double decker carousels to Westfield Shoppingtowns. They're paying the bills and then some right now.

As far as Zamperla Kiddie rides, well, if you can't say anything nice..........

coasterdude, I meant besides someone falling out, the ride, from what I've seen, suffers from very few mechanical problems. Everything is accessible righ there on the trailer. I guess it would be the same for the park, everything is under the arm, but I don't know so I'll close the Chaos chat.

For the most part, Chance is a very good company. Their thrill rides are amazing, sure they need a little adjustment, but what company doesn't?

BTW: My favorite coaster manufacturer is B&M...have anything bad to say about them???
