Wow, that looks awesome. Know I can stare at the webcam all night too!

-----------------
I went to Sandusky, but there was no Callahan factory

I noticed that yesterday and thought it looked really nice.

-----------------

It does look very nice. The webcam feature seems to be pretty handy, I wish SF parks would do the same.
I don't want to sound negative, but whats the big deal? It's just two spotlights on each tower, nothing new or special. I can't really tell from the web cam, but maybe it will change colors like Millennium Force's hill. Now MF has awesome lights...

Yeah i wish every park had them. As for SF that would cost them extra money and why would they spend money considering that they've probably made a billion dollars from ripping people off. (note sarcasm)

Rllrcstrdude, intelligent lighting fixtures like the kind Cedar Point has are very expensive. They are easily $3000 a piece and higher. Then you have to buy a controller to program the lights, which can also be several thousand dollars and higher. Add on the cost of the DMX cable, the electrical service, and replacement bulbs- which are extremely expensive, and you've got something that looks impressive, but isn't the best financial investment.

Bah! Compared to the cost of a $12,000,000 coaster, $10,000 or less worth of Intelligent Lighting is a drop in the bucket. Take it from someone who knows (http://lighting.dynamicgroove.com). In fact, I thought Six Flags was being -very- cheap when they installed Intellabeams at SFGAm last year (I'm guessing they might originally be from elsewhere in the park/chain). I-Beams are such old tech. With the money they make, they have no excuse for not having -at least- Cyberlights or Studio Spots, and a laser would be great too (maybe I could get a job there). Cedar Point has both.

I know at Sixflags Great Adventure they have very limited lights on there rides, they just depend on the moon and lights around the park, and if there is lights they are nuthing special just one or two spot lights, and nuthing as decrative as MF at Cedarpoint.

DMX cable is cheap because there's nothing special about it. Terminate the ends yourself and it's even cheaper.

yep, everyone uses CAT-5 cable for DMX these days so it's cheap.

I'm not disagreeing that compared to the cost of the coaster, that the lighting might be a drop in the bucket, but I'd rather see that money puts towards another flat ride, or other park improvements. And if it's not done as well as Cedar Point's two installations (MF and PT), it just looks stupid. See Hypersonic XLC for example.

a nice, thilling flat ride costs at least 2 million. having spectacular lighting that costs 50,000 dollars is a far better investment IMO.
