Wicked Twister Construction Question

I have been keeping an eye on the two webcams Cedar Point has kindly provided during construction of Wicked Twister.  It is obvious now that they are setting track for the beginning of the back spike.  My thought was originally that the track would go further down the beach as evidenced by the poles sticking out of the sand on Cam #1.  My guess is obviously wrong based on where they are starting the back spike now and also upon further examination of the concept drawings. 

Anyways, on to my question.  What are these posts in the beach on Cam 1?  Are they possibly for a boardwalk of some kind?  Just curious.  By the way, there should be a contest to name the spider that keeps showing up on camera 1.  My choice is Spike (for the spikes on Wicked Twister).\
