Wicked Cyclone POV posted by SFNE

I was at media day yesterday and rode it 8 time in different seats and the ride is non stop action from the first drop to the brakes. I only saw a couple people not able to ride due to the restraints not closing enough. I do know that sometimes its just certain seats because i saw someone get refused a ride and they changed seats and were able to ride. I found the restraints really comfortable and didn't even feel the ankle bar. It's a great ride and can't wait to ride it more during the season after it breaks in some more.

Unlike Twisted Colossus, this looks to me like an absolute improvement over the ride it replaced.

And Cedar Point is sitting on Mean Streak "as is" because why?

Get with it, Cedar Fair.

This is a winner, indeed. And as I type I'm munching on some Friendly's ice cream (from the grocer).

I didn't even know Friendly's was still around. They closed all their restaurants a few months ago.

Brian

That was discussed in this very thread back on May 6th.

Oops. Somehow I missed that.

I'm sure cf will get there. Remember RMC can only do a certain amount of rides/year. However in an interview with ECG, Shilke said that next year there will be three, and the year after there will be four, so I can definitely see cedar fair with one by 2017. Mean Streak and the Texas Giant were very similar, so I can see an Iron Mean Streak being very much like NTG.

They're not all closed.

The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

And the brand lives on in the freezer aisle.

Kahiki, anyone?

Yes, please. I could use a Mystery Drink.
Have you tried Grass Skirt Tiki Room? It'll have to do, I guess. They have some of the original decor from Kahiki. Food's ok.

For the record, rode Colossus yesterday and it is so amazing. Just amazing. I'll take this one over just about every coaster ever built on the west coast, especially the original Colossus.

In what way was the old colossus so great? Because it was rough and only ran one side which defeated the point of a racer? The old Colossus is no comparison to Twisted Colossus from what I've seen. Now I feel jealous that it isn't closer to me, though I have Fury five minutes from my house.

No! But I'm happy to hear they are back on their feet. Little background; lived in Columbus from '95 - 2007; loved the original Kahiki and they opened a place close to us on the East side that only survived about 2 years (sometime around 2001 - 2004). I was always hoping for the best; we had some great memories there and it puts a huge smile on my face to know the spirit of Kahiki lives on in some way.

The original Kahiki is the stuff of culinary legend.

Take a trip down memory lane.

I'm not from Columbus and hadn't heard of Kahiki Supper Club until today, but... apparently this is a thing? Fraternal Order of Moai

Yes it is.
I met some people in St. Louis who are very very Tiki (cant say for sure if they're members of this secret society but I wouldnt be surprised) and upon finding out I'm from Columbus practically accosted me about Kahiki. They never got the chance to go and wondered if I'd been to Grass Skirt. I told them not to make a special trip.

But....
Back to Colossus. When the ACER's were there many years ago, a morning ERT was on the new Batman and Colossus. Guess where I went? I sat on Colossus all morning and loved it, I was one of just a few riding over there, so I got to go over and over. By that time the ride had already been altered, but maybe because the ride was so famous, maybe it was the classic feel with the long straight drops and the high slow, turn arounds, I don't know. I thought it was totally groovy. And ok, maybe it was a dog, but I'm glad I got on it.
Six Flags over Massachusetts is still on my bucket list, so I'll never know the former Cyclone. I never heard much good about it, though, and that was from casual visitors and home-boys alike. No doubt this new ride looks to be quite an improvement.

Both of the RMC remodels debuting in the U.S. this year look fantastic. I wouldn't spend a lot of time comparing the two trying to determine which is best, and especially not until I'd ridden both. From my experience (with both a retro fit ride and a ground up install) I'm inclined to believe RMC can't do much wrong. From the ground the rides seem so twisted and impossible, it's about as much spectator wow factor as I've ever seen. In riding, the trains negotiate those incredible elements so smoothly and the rider is perfectly placed- I don't know how they do it so successfully. I can't say I'd be happy if all wooden rides went RMC style, but I have a list in the back of my mind of rides that sure could use it.
Regardless, RMC is poised to take us into the future with rides that are thrilling, reliable, and I predict enduring with fans and GP alike.

Never ridden colossus, but many have told me that it was running on its last legs. What really gets me is that Thunder Road has been confirmed to close on July 26. I'm going to miss the silver side. Blue side not so much.

I rode Thunder Road when I was there in May and it was ouch ouch ouch. I don't know what side they were running, blue or silver, but as you sit in the train it was the one on the right.
That ride's original trains were from a ride at Riverview in Chicago. The front car on one side was made to look like a cop car and the other was a hot rod or something.
It's a little surprising as they spent some money over the last few seasons slowly but surely rehabbing the track, but I dont think they ever got done with it. The report is that it is closing for future expansion. Waterpark?

Not to nitpick, but it's probably supposed to be blue and gray... ;)

CarolinaNick15's avatar

Thats the blue side. I find the gray side(you happy now?) much more enjoyable. Since they said it will spash and roll or something like that, I'm hoping Aquatrax.

It's not an aquatrax. Or anything made by Intamin.
