Why the secrecy?

I understand why the People Who Know won't tell the name of Cedar Point's new coaster. I understand why they won't tell the name or the statistics of the new coaster. I understand why they won't tell the layout. What I don't understand, is why they can't tell us when they are going to announce it. Why is there so much secrecy about the date of the announcement?

Perhaps no specific date is set. Patience is a virtue...

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

Because there is no coaster.. I mean spoon...

I mean...

Well we have a good idea as to what it's gonna be....

why aren't you?

God, Please grant me patience... BUT GIVE IT TO ME RIGHT NOW!!!

One example: CP built MF 310' tall. Word got out. Steel Dragon was built 318' tall and MF lost the bragging (advertising) rights for the height record in just a few months.

That has more to do with stats/layout than announcement date. I want to know why they ( The People Who Know ) can't tell us when it will be announced. I don't want any other information besides the date.

( I don't really believe the thing about Steel Dragon being changed because Millennium Force was announced. Unless someone confirms it... )

What cracks me up is that the People Who Know won't say anything outright, but they drop so many hints that it makes it obvious.

A good secret-keeper doesn't even let people know that he has a secret at all.

But Jeff has said before that he helps control info leaks as well. He gives us enough information to keep us interested and guessing as to what it is without giving us any true specifics.

As to why we don't have an announcement date? I don't know...maybe its so far away that it's not necessary to make us aware of one yet. In the past, when there has been previous warnings of annoucements, they come just a few days to a week before it is announced. From what people have been saying, we have a long ways to go yet.

Korn Tour (With no name)--Korn, Puddle of Mudd, Deadsy

Perhaps they are still working on the graphics, marketing, and merchandising plans? They want to announce the project with a full promotional blitz and have everything already in place.

Supposedly, and this has all but been confirmed, that they were set to announce it back in August, but a higher-up pushed it back.

CoasterKrazy - if you for one second think that Morgan and Nagashima Spa Land was able to design, fabricate, and build Steel Dragon in the few months between when word of Millie leaked out and when Steel Dragon opened then you have NO CLUE how long it takes for coasters to go from the design stage to the first rider. Steel Dragon was no "plop on a plot of land" clone..it took months of site surveillance, design, engineering, manufacturing, shipping, contruction, and testing to make Steel Dragon a reality.

Steel Dragon and Millie opening in the same year was nothing more than coincidence.

As for CP and the announcement of their 2003 coaster, I suggest you take a chill pill and practice a little patience. All will be revealed shortly, and then the real complaining can begin ;-)

Have patience.. we should hear an announcement when all the leaves have hit the ground......

Look at Six Flags, they haven't announced one single thing yet for 2003 and they won't for a while. Why should CP announce first and give other parks opportunities to steal media coverage. They will sit in a corner, wait until everyone else makes their moves, then CHECKMATE! It helps build up hype and excitement. Look at PKI. I bet they increased their opening weekend attendance alot just by people wanting to see what Tomb Raider actually was.. it's called smart marketing.

I hear a train a comin'

TR2k3....GET READY!

i heard it's gonna be named dragster, which definetly seems appropriate (sp?)

What I also don't understand is why "those who know" tell others that they know. Some people just gotta feel important, eh?

Vekomember is from Holland, ishn't zaht veerd?

What I don't understand is why everybody cares so much. Weather you know what it is now or what it is in May, you will still not ride it any sooner.

The people who are begging to know are the same ones who used to sneak into their parents' closets in October, cut open the Christmas packages with an X-acto knife, play with the toys, and then retape the packages before Mom got home from her euchre club.

Chill guys, Wicked Twister wasn't announced until November, if that's the case for this new coaster, then we all have quite some time to wait.

The announcement will come eventually, you can't ride it until next year anyway. :)

That's funny, because that is exactly what I meant by my second post. I realize that it takes an extremely long time to think of, design, and build roller coasters. That is why I DON'T believe that Steel Dragon 2000 was modified to beat Millennium Force. A few extra feet may not seem like much, but I know that it can make or break a roller coaster, or any structure for that matter.

As of now, patience is not my problem. I just wanted to know why the announcement date is such a secret. Like I said before, I understand why stats and such aren't being told, but I don't understand why the announcement date is being kept under wraps.
