Why the Raven?

The Raven is not that isolated...not like the Beast anyway.  You can see the whole first half from the parking lot.  Heck, the first drop is like 5 feet from the path to the front gate.

But it's still my No. 1 coaster, much better than the Legend IMO.  It's not the darkness that makes the night ride better, it's that the ride gets faster and faster throughout the day.  I never got to ride in pitch-blackness, only at dusk, but I can tell you it did get much faster and more insane the later it got.

The park isn't normally open late enough to get night rides (at least I don't think it is). It's an excellent ride, no question about it, even in the day time. However, during Stark Raven Mad, when there is no moon and you're buried in the woods, you can't see much of anything. No dark ride I've ever been on compares to what you experience on that ride at night.

I rode the Raven for the first time in June.  As the train rolled through the first two-thirds of the course, I was think ing, "This is a great wooden coaster with plenty of Gs and airtime, but I don't understand why it's #1.  We'll probably start slowing down now."  To my surprise, though, the ride went even faster and harder right up to the end brakes.  Then I understood why people love to fly on the Raven.  The Legend is a great ride too, in a different way.  The Legend throws intensity at you the whole way.  The Raven builds its intensity throughout the ride.

Now I understand why Raven is #1.
