It's nice to hear that there's people in Michigan who actually like living there! I think in the 6 years that I've lived in Florida, about 60% of my friends and acquaintances here are originally from Michigan! I was really starting to think that Michigan wasn't a great place to live if everyone was moving down here! ;)
We had a park in Detroit, Boblo. I miss it. Not bad for a small park. They've killed the amusement parks, destroyed the city, and moved the casinos in....Now we bus senior's in from all over the country to gamble, while we bus all of the young people to Cedar Point. Interesting........Great social planning. MIA is 3 hours away. CP is 1:45. I drive to CP....
I unload all of my extra money in Ohio in the summer and Orlando in the winter. Michigan get's zip.
Some Peeps just cant handle a 6 month long winter LOL.
We are extremists in the Great Lakes Region 100 degrees with 95 percent Humidity in the summer, and 20 below Zero in the winter. Some people just can't take it, and just about nobody who lives in Florida is from Florida.
I wouldn't want to live anyhere else but Southeastern Michigan or Northwest Ohio. I will take beuitiful farmland over anythign else any day. BTW I love living in the middle of cornfileds, graduating from high scool with 58 people, having to drive 12 miles to buy a gallon of milk and getting on the tracto after school to disk the field.
Country People Rule LOL

Yes, Detroit metro area is much larger than any metro area in Ohio, including Cleveland. But Detroit is the only area of significant population in MI, whereas Ohio has:
Cleveland/Akron - Cincinnati - Columbus - Youngstown/Canton/Warren - Toledo - Dayton/Middletown.
Those are the six major areas, and there are many smaller larger towns the likes of which the upper half of lower Michigan has none of (such as Findlay, Sandusky, Newark, Chillicothe, Springfield, Mansfield, etc.).
So the spread of population is why there are so many parks in Ohio. Were the entire population of Ohio centered around, say, Cleveland, then perhaps one large park would do it.

Coaster2K: NO BUSINESS GROWTH? Are you kidding me? FYI, Columbus is the only city in the Midwest that is growing. In the last 10 years, Detroit, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, St. Louis and more all LOST people, yet Columbus grew 12.4%.
And no beautiful scenery? Have you been to the Lake Erie Coast? The rolling hills of Amish Country in Holmes County? The mountainous river towns? Have you even been to Ohio??

over 100 coasters in the works this year for me to ride... YES!
Michigan the Grand Rapids area is as big as the Youngstown area, we also have Bay City/Saginaw, Traverse City, Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, Jackson, Lansing, Monroe, Muskegon, St. Joe/Benton Harbor. The population of michigan is very spread out its just that it is all spread out in an area south of M-10.

A few other places in Ohio that do draw some people are the Amish country is southern Ohio...I also have heard of many people coming to Youngstown to visit Mill Creek Park which is the second largest city park only beaten by Central Park in NYC.
Idora park used to be located in Mill Creek Park but now is defunct...which totally sucks. Great hiking though...and Bear's Den is a blast.
There's also German Village in Colombus, Wyandot and the Colombus Zoo which are right next to eachother. There's alot of things to do in Ohio. If it wasn't for the amusement parks I'd hate living in Ohio though.

Why doesn't anyone know about Lima? Its bigger than Findlay and Mansfield, yet know onee mentions it. But back on topic, Ohio has lots of coasters because it was one of the first place to have thrill coasters, and things to do near the parks. And when you are the first at somthing, people relize that and go to those places, thus providing more money for those parks.

census are not totally acurate they just count the ones that were sent in and make estimates about others, but that probally wouldn't make a difference in this case.

Now we see why CP is so popular, it has alot of peeps within 250 miles. It also shows why Indiana only has a few small quality parks.
And Grand Rapids really is bigger than Dayton. Who saw that one coming., Detroit MSA=Cle,Col, and Tol Combined!!
