Hmmmm.... I guess you'd better divide that 42 and 48 into the area for each state, to get the number of coasters per square foot.
I'm sorry, but California having more coasters means very little to me. Matching coaster to coaster, Ohio blows California away in terms of *quality* coasters. And I live in California!

You may get wet on this attraction, you may even get drenched! But can you survive the PLUNGE?
Starfire has the key issue here... If you stand in Columbus, how many coasters are within three hours? There isn't a location in Cali that match that number.

I think I get one of the best deals living in Northern California. PGA, SFMW, SCBB and the new Bonfaire Gardens are all within a 2 1/2 hour drive(give or take traffic of course). Having just moved from New England(SFNE, LC) to Riverside, California(KBF, SFMM), then 1 year later to Northern California, I can say that I have lived in some great coaster areas!

Actually, Jeff if you are in Fresno California you are about 3 hours from the LA area and about 3 hours from the Bay area. Not that you would want to live in Fresno. My sister used to live there, YUCK!!!

Gotta ride 'em all!
SimC: Ohio might have better quality coasters, but in NO way does it blow Cali away (especially come feb 2001). Let's take a look:
Hyper catagory: Magnum v. Goliath
Wooden Catagory: Beast, Screechin' Eagle, Villian, Big Dipper v. Roar, Giant Dipper (SC & SD), GhostRider
Launched Catagory: OL:FOF v. California Screamin'
Sitdown looper: Vortex & Knight Flight v. Viper & Medusa (West)
Inverted Catagory: Raptor, Serial Thriller, Face/Off v. B:TR, Kong, Invertigo, Top Gun
Standup Catagory: King Cobra & Mantis v. Vortex & Riddler's Revenge
Dear God, what is that thing? catagory: MF, SOB, S:UE v. S:TE, Stealth
I'm not making a judgement on which state is better, but it seems that both have a lot to offer in terms of variety and quality.
BTW: I live in DC so it makes me no difference either way...

Simcoaster, the only reason I even brought up Cali was to correct Irondragon24. Most people East of the Mississippi believe Ohio or maybe Penn. has the most number of coasters. Was just stating the facts, any place that has the greatest number of anything is always considered the Capital of ... Therefore, Cali is hands down the coaster capital of the world.
As far as which place has the better coasters is a completely different issue and very subjective, totally depends on one's own personal taste. Everone can debate till the cows come home which place has the better coasters, but as far as sheer numbers go and which state qualifies as the coaster capital, Cali blows away anywhere.
Still, you couldn't pay me to live in Fresno. I agree with Soggy, definitely the armpit of Cali!
WHY OHIO??????? WHY NOT????????
We are getting off the subject. Let's just say that California and Ohio offer an incredible selection of coasters. To determine which coaster selction is better is pointless. BOTH STATES RULE! Would you rather live in Montana (no offense) and have no coasters to choose from.
The population is there. The quality is there. The history is there. The location is there. Say no more.
It could have been any other state. and it still can be any other state. Hey just look at other states like california. There are some great coasters there to.

Cause I am whatever you say I am if I wasn't then why would I say I am.
About Ohio, I think everyone saw the success of CP and had to beat it also, Ohio, like Jeff said its big in popualtion and has numerous good sized cities. Good sized cities ususally have amusment parks. About Percapita GMP I think Califronia is the highest with all the high tec jobs.

RIDDLER'S REVENGE THE MOST UNDERRATED RIDE IN THE WORLD!!

What new themeparks in CA are coming? HAVE MY DREAMS COME TRUE? Now Ohio might hav better qualily coaster but i dought parks.
Megapark category:
CA:SFMM
Ohio:CP
Theme park catgory:
CA: KBF
Ohio: CP? one park for two cateogry's defently not SFO maybe PKI
Paramount Parks:
CA: PGA
Ohio: PKI
I have never been to PKI, PGA is been a park my family has been going to scence it opened, I will give the edge to PKI cuss it just looks better.
Six Flags parks
CA: MARINE WORLD!
Ohio: SFO
Cali takes this one. SFO has some sweet coasters but horrible serivce and can't handle crowds, Marine World's service in OK but it has the best collection of ground rides, animal's and a few state of the art coasters and more to come!
Then there is Sea World and Universial Studios[ I am praying for an IOA] which have no coasters but are fun also SCBB was voted the best american boardwalk park by discovery channel. You decide.both awesome states regardless!
I have to disagree about your Theme Park choice for CA. You've got two right there in LA, KBF as noted and Disneyland, the original theme park. Both phenominal parks and shouldn't be missed if visiting.
