I think it was 88 or 89 that CP held a Coaster Con with Geauga Lake. Why hasn't ace held one there since. It seems like everyyear they are at Kennywood, BGW or SFMM?

Yes but it isn't a three day offical ace event. Ever been to an actual Coaster Con? Much different. Little Local day like Coastermania is too big for one day (over 1,500 people attending!) they need an actual Con to handle the amount of people and ert needed.

ACE is planning Coaster Con '04 to be at Cedar Point and Six Flags Worlds of Adventure.

They can plan all they want. CP does CoasterMania club-neutral and that's it. They won't do a club-specific event. They don't need enthusiasts and there's zero incentive for them to do anything more than CoasterMania.

Anybody who is in any coaster club can go to Coastermania. It is usually the first or second weekend in June. Its amazing, thousands of enthusiasts.
It seems to me that the non ACE oriented events, CoasterMania, SRM, PPPP and the like are better then the ACE exclusive ones.
CoasterMania is plenty as CP, where else can you get that much ERT on that many rides? And wheer else can i ride my Arrow baby at 1 AM with no trims and no waits?

Coastermania At Cedar Point is the largest enthusiasts event of them all. It starts at 7 in the morning and goes until the park opens at 10. During the morning ERT this year Raptor, Mantis, Blue Streak, and Power Tower were all open. I got 4 rides on Mantis, 6 on Raptor, 1 on Power Tower and 2 on Blue Streak. The ops for Raptor were doing all kinds of great stuff you wouldn't see on a normal operating day. Fun Fun. We then got in line for Millie before the park opened.
During the day they have lunch and Dick Kinzel usually gives a talk, although this year he wasn't there and Dan Keller did the talk.
Kneemeister and I went to SFWOA during the day and then came back for nighttime ERT which starts after the park closes at 10 and goes till 1. This is when it gets awesome. Millie, Maggie, and Mean Streak were this years night time ert. Mean Streak took the place of Wicked twister which was down. But they did very cool stuff. They turned all the lights off, I swear loosened up the brakes but the darkness probably made it seem faster. They even had a stuffed animal that they were asking questions and whoever answered them right rode with the stuffed animal. Awesome.
3 rides on a pitch black Mean Streak, 15 laps on my Arrow baby Maggie some of them trimless with the ops rocking the place like never before and allowing more room with the lap bar then you could ever belive CP would do. We then ended the night very tired with a great lap on Millie.
For some of the rides its not so much Exclusive Ride Time as it is extended ride time. Millie especially, anyway its a whole lot of fun.
Edit: I forgot to metion that the price is actually less then a ticket for a Normal day at CP. Including your regular day, the ert, and lunch.

Thanks for all that MagnumForce. Can I ask what the ride ops on Raptor were doing differently? Sound like a great time because I hate to ride Magnum with my lapbar shoved all the way down into my lap. Getting off with bruises isn't my favorite, I would love to see the ops let you go with some extra space.

I do agree though that the Raptor ops were awesome that morning. But my vote for best Coastermania Ride Ops goes to the Mean Streak crew. They were just having a great time, joking around, telling jokes. They were awesome!

Just sit back, and enjoy your record breaking ride on Millennium Force!

1989, 9 years old bawling my eyes out because I didn't want to ride Magnum. I did anyway and look at me now. Why did ya make me do it Dave? ;)
Mean Streak was awesome at night...if I hadn't known the layout by heart, it would have been even more exciting in the pitch blackness...you also can't forget the copious amount of mayflies and midges...:) I also got my first Cedar Point re-ride on Mean Streak. The ride op was like, "Get off, stay on, do whatever you want!" I thought it was cool since its against park policy. There were a few guys that looked like they were in their 60's-70's which I though was sweet because of all the people that complain about it being too rough.
I had probably the best ride ever on Magnum. It was close to closing and the train was full of enthusiasts. I was in the ejector seat and it was trimless! The whole train went nuts when we passed the trim with no grinding...the return succession of hills were insane, and in the 2nd tunnel I realized it felt way faster than any ride I'd had on MF.
CoasterMania rocks!

While it isn't official, ACE is working with CP and SFWoA in doing an event in 2004. In 1997, everything was in place to hold the convention there but fell through at the last minute.
NAPHA has also had an event there by themselves if I remember correctly.

Coastermania is a fine event, but I agree, the number of people that come to the event is a little on the high side for ERT to actually be ERT, a CC 3 day stint at CP seems like it'd be quite a bit better in that regard. And god forbid that event actually involves SFWoA, hopefully they'll at least operate 2 trains on each ride for us and possibly grease the tracks...as that place operates now I don't even want to think about how rosy the reviews would be...
