Why does SFOT close so early?

I noticed on the SF site that SFOT closes strangely early for a SF park. Im planning to go in september [its also closed some of august why??] and its only open fridays and sats and for sort periods why??
I'm not sure about this, but maybe because it goes into it's off-season around then, like other parks. If it is open all year long, I would suspect that this is true; but probably because it is its' offseason, they need extra time to repair the rides and do general maintenance. That's my guess.

Well, the park isn't quite a "year round" park; it closes for a couple of months at the beginning of the year. But I think they go back to weekends-only in late August because the majority of school districts around here are back in session. The city I'm in goes back on August 13th. Another one even started on August 2nd!

I live there, and schools start August 2 through August 14, so there isn't a huge reason to keep it open longer if schools are in. Its only smart business.
