Why Does Mean Streak Suck?

In serious terms, what makes this coaster soo bad, I would love to know why and what they could do to save it.
It isn't that bad, it is just ROUGH. Towards the end I thought it got kind of boring and slow, but the first drop was incredible. Overall I liked the ride but it needs new trains or something to make it smoother so it can go faster.
Mean Streak doesnt suck! Its awesome!

I'm a Cedar Point die hard, but I have no love for this ride. The problem stems from several areas. The first problem is that the trains can not properly negotiate turns. Since the trains are not trailered (a la B&M, Arrow looper or GCI's Millennium Flyer trains), you have four wheels that do not articulate and "skip" off of the turns. Perhaps if the track was greased they could slide through the turns, but that's not the case.

Of course, that causes a host of other problems, namely the fact that it causes grooves to form in the track. That of course makes the trains bounce around even more, causing a vicious cycle.

The first half of Mean Streak is outstanding, truly a great wooden coaster. I don't mind the pressure headache after the exit, that means I actually rode a coaster. The steeley's just don't do that to me. The last half is a yawn, the brake run sucks with no air time. I'll take the Beast anyday. That is a legend, way before it's time. New cars, maybe, but they can improve it overall...like shorter lines for starters. Waiting an hour on a slow Tuesday is not my idea of an efficient trip to CP.

There's nothing like a woodie...
Mean Streak sounds a lot like The Texas Giant... Rough. Texas Giant should have some sort of Advil booth at the exit instead of the photo booth...medicine would probably make more money! :) It gets pretty rough after the second drop... the backseat is so rough, you might want paramedics ready at the exit. Last year I rode this with a friend...and from his pain I heard words I've never from him. Personally, I felt like I was hemorrhaging internally. To make it worse, when it was all over...the ride op told everyone that if we wanted to ride again, to just stay seated. And, gulp... I actually stayed on... On to ROUND TWO! :) *** This post was edited by backseat on 5/3/2000. ***
You want to know why you stayed on, its probably because it is not as bad as you say it is. The American Eagle at SFGAm beats you around but for some reason we keep getting back on. Dont get me wrong, I like smooth coasters, but for some reason a rough coaster appeals to me as well.
Actually I kind of liked Mean Sreak. Right now it's my #1 woodie for now. I thought the drop was the best on any wood coaster that I've ridden. I really liked the banked turns. I don't think Mean Streak sucks though.

When they built Mean Streak, they should have incorporated more bunny hills into the second half of the ride, presently it is much too flat and slow. Overall, the structure itself is absolutely gorgeous! A must see in the evening.
Try Wildcat at Hershey. It doesnt beat you up,but it never lets up.
Texas Giant jsut got retracked. I've heard it is running smoother than ever. The thing I don;t understand is why Cp doesn't do this to the Mean Streak. I also don't understand why Texas Giant has continuously been rated #1 woodie and the Mean Streak is 27th! I've never ridden Texas Giant myself, but I wish I could!
MEAN STREAK DOESN'T SUCK. it is a great WOODEN coaster. yes there are problems that can be fixed but it is still a great ride. if you want rough, try raging wolfbobs in the back at sfo.
The only thing that makes this coaster good is the fact that it is rough. If it was smooth it would really suck.
Mean Streak is a GOOD Coaster! Maybe with new trains it would be a GREAT coaster!

Just my 2 cents

I LOVE THE MEAN STREAK, personally I love the ride. I think its a great ride all you have to do is lean foward. I do this on every other ride anyways, I LOVE THIS RIDE!!!!!!!1

Maybe becuase im a kid?

I think the lay-out is good, but it is way to rough. Maybe they should replace the track with steel running rails like Gemini. I bet that coaster would make the top ten list then.

Mike, think about that...that's essentially redoing the ENTIRE RIDE. Gemini is a steel coaster...it just has wood supports. Making Mean Streak into a steel coaster would not only be so expensive, it wouldn't be worth it, but it would ruin the whole attraction. Yeah, it'd be smooth, but it would no longer be a woodie. CP's next coaster should be a good 130-150ft CCI.

Personally, I think MS is a great woodie. I've debated this hundreds of times and I think I have my side of the arguement wrapped up here. Ok, I will admit it's heavily braked and the first half is MUCH more thrilling than the second. This fact makes people hate it. (And your occasional "It's too rough"). That's fine, but when I ride MS or any other ride, I'm just glad to be on a coaster. If you get on MS and fold your arms and sit there and say "Impress me!" you'll probably appreciate the first half and fall asleep during the second half. If you're excited, having a great time, don't go to Cedar Point everday, and don't have the entire circuit memorized, you'll probably see it as thrilling like I do! I love the close calls, and barrelling through the structure. . It's like going through tunnels of wood! So what if the second half is slow, it's still a long ride and that makes me a happy camper! Now look what you did. You made me get into a sermon and everything. :(
I really like the first part of this ride, but right after you hit that turn around section near the lift hill it gets lame. They really should have ended it there instead of trying to make it a longer lasting ride.It might have been a short ride but man just think of that fast experience:).
Personally, I think that Mean Streak is a great woodie. Everyone I've talked to loves it. Last year me and 3 other friends rode in the first car. After we rode, since it was a walk-on, we went on again and my friends acted like he was choking me, and I acted like I was in pain. It was an awesome on-ride photo.
