Why do some people hate Gerstlaur trains?

I personally like the look of them, but what I don't like are the "pads" on the bars down by your legs and thigh. The restraint system is part of the problem if you ask me. Why do they need bars on both sides of your legs anyway? PTC trains don't use two bars per restraint, why should Gerstlauler?

How do you say Gerstlauer?

Gersh•lal •er, at least that's how I've heard it prounounced. My thoughts on the G-trains is mainly what everyone else has said, they can bruise, or just don't provide that great of a ride. Twisted Twins, for example, looks awesome, but the ride disappoints big time. From what I've heard, the reason that the CCI's mostly were using G-trains for their coasters is because PTC wouldn't do business with them anymore. If the park wanted PTC's instead, they would have to pay for them themselves.

Methinks one of the big reasons why HW bought PTCs for the Legend is because the enthusiasts seem to have taken it upon themselves to moan about the Gerstlauers at every possible opportunity.

Personally, I love G-trains. I have zero problems marathoning coasters with them, with my hands up, and I enjoy them the entire way.

I'm actually heading back to SRM with extreme trepidation this year, because I loved the way the 4 Corners of Death absolutely killed you with the Gerstlauers and from what I've heard, that hasn't translated well at all to the PTC era.

As for shuffling, if you guys haven't noticed, shuffling happens on any wood coaster that isn't maintained well. In it's first year or two of operation Villain evidenced zero shuffle. Conversely Tonnere de Zeus, a coaster which apparently used to be glass smooth, and runs PTCs, shuffles like a madman now.

In general I think Gerstlauers track much better than PTCs, and any seeming bad tracking is likely due to the track itself, not the trains.
