Why do parks share info.?

ApolloAndy's avatar
Just out of curiosity, what's in it for the parks to share info before announcements with webmasters or other non-employees? Or does the secret just get leaked by someone in a non-official way?

Basically, why do Moosh and Swoosh know what CP is building? ;)

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Becuz Moosh is really Dick Kinzel in disguise.

There is an offical meeting of all the shareholders of Cedar Fair and they decide who gets the leaks. Actually, it is sometimes hard to keep a big secret, and random people leak info to people they trust even if it is not allowed.

It's a red Intamin with at least one wicked airtime hill and a bunch of curves.

Duh.

Does it have tan supports?

But Jeff does (and has). Just curious why the park would leak to Jeff. Officially or not officially.

What makes you think it was someone at the park who told Jeff? There are lots of people throughout all aspects of the industry who know well in advance what parks are doing.
People work on things like the website, promo videos, and animations way ahead of time.

Yeah, it's not necessarily leaked from a park. I heard from a friend at Intamin when they were developing the cable lift and design for Millennium Force.

If you're in the industry, you just take the info in and shut up about it. Otherwise, you won't be in the industry very long.

Hi

Which makes me wonder why a certain screaming site gets anything anymore. (Not that I don't go there myself on occasion...)

I believe one way Jeff new about MF is that he actually found some sort of shipping records when the track was being shipped into Canada, or something. I don't remember all the details but honestly, if I really wanted to dedicate some serious time and effort into finding out what the park was building it wouldn't be *that* hard.
Future attractions aren't as secret as most think. You'd be surprised at the number of seasonals (in ops) that know. The park dosn't make it a point to tell seasonals, but if you've been around for a few seasons you know more than most.

In 01 there was a drawing of Dragster on the board in Bill Sphen's office which was seen by many, although most didn't know what it was until 02.

Yeah..I heard around that SFOT was getting 6 new rides for '06....and then one day they told us in our morning "muster" that it would be 9.

Weeks before the announcement of 10. But really 9. Yeah.

Im sure its true about more people knowing than you thinkg...But with that Im sure its true that alot of people (probaly on here) like to pretend they know in order to feel important or at least lead you on to thinking they know.

You mean there is still people that don't? :) You know don't you?

^I'd tell you but then I would have to kill you. ;)

Actually I don't really pay attention to what the parks are getting as many people do. I don't really read park blogs or watch construction cams.

I sorta like being surprised at the last minute. :) I am sure the park peeps laugh at all the speculations they read on the boards, though. Right Paula? :)

It about time, I've been waiting for that rotating restaurant to be built for years now!
