Why did Geauga Lake change Big Dipper's name?

Formerly the Clipper. Why the name change? I think Clipper sounds cooler :)

Good question, GREAT coaster.  Man, I LOVE those OLD woodies....BTW, I have NO problem with RWB or MS, I do have some problem with how they're maintained...wooden coasters need TLC, and lots of it.  BD ran fantastic during our OH trip, and I wish parks would keep all woodies up to those specs.  What a great ride.  Then we went to CP, and MS had trims so tight I couldn't believe we crested the top of the second hill.  Trims are NO substitute for maintenance and occasional re-tracking.  I understand after "valleying" MS, CP loosened those trims.  I love woodies at least as much as you do, and strongly suggest you get to HW by any means necessary - they run Raven and Legend FAST and FURIOUS - night rides were out of this world!  As for the name change, anyone else?  My "best guess" is that "Clipper" has military connotations, and the name WAS changed in the late '60s, so...

I don't know if this was thought of at the time, but Big Dipper was a name commonly used on coaster designer John Miller's creations, like Wildcat was used on Herb Schmeck designs and Bobs was used on Prior & Church coasters.  To me, Big Dipper sounds a lot better than Clipper, more like what a classic out-and-back coaster should be called!

Hmm, military connections? Never thought of that. Rideman? :)
