Why are you going to the June ACE convention?

Why are you going to next month's ACE convention?

Because of the coaster/park selection?

To support ACE as an organziation?

Because it's the easiest way to "hook up" with your coaster friends?

I'd like to know why you're 'drawn' to this event. Thanks!

I'm mainly going because I've never been to either of those parks. Plus I just joined ACE in the fall so its my first CON, gotta check it out.

My girlfriend and I are not going this year. We would be but she just got a new job and cant take the time off. From our experience last year anyone who does go should find it to be quite enjoyable. If you have never been I would recommend it.

But dont stop supporting Coasterbuzz either if you decide to join ACE. Both need your help. Both have their positives and their flaws. Need not turn this into a discussion of that.

IF I were to be going it would be to just to enjoy riding coasters and to have an excuse to go to Paramount's Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens. The ERT is nice but usually not as much of an ERT as a regional event would be.

Coaster Con is an experience in itself.

This will mark my first CoasterBuzz Con though. :)

Last year at SFMM, KBF, and Adventure World in SoCal was a blast.

Can I give an "opposing" viewpoint? I'll give a few reasons why I'm *not* going.

Already have passes to both parks (making the $160 pricetag not in the least bit attractive)

I don't really care for PKD at all (I love Volcano, like Hypersonic and FoF, and that's about it. Definitely can't even spend one day there, let alone three or four.)

Too much time in too few parks (with vacation time at a premium, I'm not about to "waste" six days or so doing two to three parks).

Those are a few reasons why I haven't done a Con yet, and will not attend this one....however, next years Con at CP/SFWoA I just might have to change my tune, as I absolutely adore both parks, and can defintely see those parks put on quite a show. We'll see.

I will have to agree with Legendary on the too few parks and too much cost. It would be beneficial to those who dont have the passes though. If only ACE would discount for season pass holders then all would be divine.

To answer to the original questions: yes, yes, and yes.

"Too much time in too few parks"

Which is why we're going to other parks on 2 of the 6 days of Con! On Tues 6/17 we're hitting SFA and on 6/20 we're going to Hersheypark and Williams Grove. As much as I appreciate Sam Marks' efforts in organizing the add-on day for SFA everyone in my group felt it wasn't a great deal and that we'd have a better time going on a weekday.

Our ACE Con-Quest itinerary: 6/12-Rye Playland, Quassy, SFNE part one; 6/13-Compounce and SFNE part two including Superhero Celebration; 6/14-Whore the Jersey Shore; 6/15-Maryland Shore and Day One of Con @ BGW; 6/16-BGW; 6/17-SFA; 6/18-PKD; 6/19-PKD; 6/20-Hersheypark and Williams Grove; 6/21-SFGAdv and Coney; 6/22-Adventureland.

I also will NOT be going to the Con this year. I would love to. I love both parks, and there are enough opportunities for sidetrips that even if the parks DID get boring, there's other things to do.

However, I have enough other trips planned this year (did Solace, doing CBCon, SRM, CoasterMania, Preservation Con, CAC, a Vegas trip at the end of August, probably the CoasterBuzz HW event, PPP, and hopefully IAAPA) that I needed to step back and save SOME vacation time and money. As tempting as the Con is, something had to give.

This reminds me, I should send in my entry for the Photo Contest now that I know I won't be there to hand it in personally...

Wow...and I thought *I* was going a lot of travelling this year!

------------------
"I don't like poop singers." Peabody, discussing American Idol.

1. A chance to spend time with friends old and new under the sunshine, riding new coasters and having fun.

2. A chance to visit 2 parks that I've wanted to see for a very long time.

3. The location of the Con this year puts it in the vicinity (I define vicinity as "less than an 8-hr. drive", LOL!) of a lot of other parks I want to hit, so the Con is the centerpiece of an 11-day trip.

4. Moosh threatened to hurt me if I didn't go.

5. OK, I admit it...it's really all about the all-you-can-eat gravy at the ACE meals!

Mike Miller - Probably reads too much ARN&R

I am going for the main reason that it is the only CC that has been in reasonable driving range for me. PKD is 10 minutes from my house, and BGW is like 1.5 hours. I do think there should be a discount to passholders, but unlike last year, I only have a pass to one of the parks. I decided not to get one to BGW this year, just because that park is always so crowded for the low number of good coasters there. And it will be a great way to see some of my coaster friends. Lol, ert will be great at BGW, but PKD any weekday or even late on a Saturday is almost all walkons, so that will not be such a great thing. What I am hoping for are walkbacks on coasters like FoF, but I doubt it will happen.

You know what is really tacky? BGW is charging a parking fee for CC. Come on!

I like AIR.

Moosh -- those were only the coaster-related trips... :) (Technically, Vegas is to see Blue Man Group, not the coasters, but how can I go to Vegas and not hit a few.)

4. Moosh threatened to hurt me if I didn't go.

Not only that but Bass only wanted to visit the two Con parks. It was like pulling teeth to convince him to expand the trip to easter PA and the New England parks ;)

bill, probably doesn't write enough for ARN&R...but I'll try to get one in soon, now that Simon Cowell beat the livin' tar out of Paul Ruben in celebrity boxing....;)

Adventureland? ...as in, on Long Island? Hrm. I guess it's safe to assume you'll also be leaving that day, huh? I mean, sure, bless them for their Top Scan and their Supernova, but it's not *that* exciting of a place to be.

You're thinking of Astroland.
Mamoosh's avatar
PinkDoom - we're not thinking of Astroland in Coney, we're talking about Adventureland on Long Island.

Maddie - yeah, we're hitting Adventureland on our way to McCarthur Airport in Islip for our flight home. We have very realistic expectations of the park ;)

So, uh, I'll wave as your 737 shakes things off the shelves in my house then. :)

I'm at Adventureland pretty regularly to ride the Top Scan. It's practically all I ride there anymore. Though, for first time visitors, I'd imagine there's some value in the Supernova and 1313 Cemetary Way -- and there's two credits there as well.

Greg- you could have seen Blue Man Group in Chicago while at CB Con. If you haven't seen it, it is fantastic.

I am taking my daughter and one of her friends to CC this year. We had a blast last year. Sure it's only 2 parks but there are a bunch near there. Plus there are non-park things to do also.

Like Moosh we are skipping 2 days of Con(just like last year). Our schedule is 6/14 leave Chicago. 6/15 - BGW, 6/16 - BGW, 6/17 - SFA, 6/18 - PKD, 6/19 - PKD, 6/20 - touring D.C., 6/21 - Hershey, 6/22 - Kennywood, 6/23 - SFWoA, 6/24 - CP.

Do you think we could squeeze in Conneaut Lake? Don't know where it is compared to any of the above parks but would love to stop there.
