Who thinks Ultra Coaster is better than RCT

I don't. The demo actually looked kinda dumb. RCT will always rule in my opinion because you can rule the entire park. What do you think??? Will some of this new competition hurt RCT???

Now an opinion from someone who has purchased the game...

The game is on par with RCT. It is difficult to learn. But once you master it, it's all good. Where the game succeeds is that you can build any kind of track element you want, and there is a 1st person view. Although I don't think this will hurt RCT because Loopy Landscapes is due out soon.
Aren't I allowed to an opinion????

Probably a stupid question, but can I buy the game at my local software store or do I have to order online? -PoppyBro
You buy it online through there website (http://www.reactorsoftware.com/coasterindex.html) and then you download it. You don't get a cd.

You can have an opinion, but I personally wanted to hear from someone who actually has the game.

Well I own both games as of yesterday and I favor RCT over UC The main benefit of this game is the many options and professional controlls. IMO the flying viewpoint could be better but the 1st person is good. However the game is way overpriced.

And because people keep asking you don't need a 3d card if you have a pentium III chipset because that is what I have and it runs fine for me. If you don't have a 3d card or a 3d accelerator don't buy it just for uc!
You really can't put these two games side by side. You're comparing apples to oranges. RCT is a strategy game, involving not only rollercoaster design, but all of the factors that go into running an entire park, down to placing trees and footpaths.

UC3D is strictly rollercoaster design. Period.

That being said, I enjoy playing both games. I've actually found myself playing RCT, designing the 'plug and play' coaster pieces, and get an idea for something I want to create in UC3D, flip over there, and make it. They work well side by side for the rollercoaster freak, but they shouldn't be compared to one another.

I've also created a quite impressive MagnumXL-200 for Ultra Coaster along with CP's Corkscrew. (Still tweaking those corkscrews though to get them as smooth as possible) If you'd like to see either of them.. lemme know!

Jeff
Does he plan on having it out in stores at all? Or is he playing it by ear with the online buyers to see if having it in stores would be worth it?
I don't have Ultra Coaster yet, but will probably get it. Hopefully the new coaster games will make the designer of RCT to keep making expansion packs. I guess as long as the expansions sell good they will make them. :)

Last night, Danimation had a chat event with the creator of UC3D. Here are some of the questions that were asked:

I have UC3D and think it is a pretty good program. I wouldn’t call it a game because you don’t win or loose and there is no goal, like in RCT. The editor can be a little difficult to use, but only because it is extremely flexible. While you could never build a coaster like MF in RCT, but you can in UC3D (I have build decent basic version of MF). And $20 is not expensive for a new game.
One improvement I would like to see is the ability to add landscaping (trees, hills, etc.). It would also be nice if the game had some pre-built components, like vertical loops, corkscrews, helixes, etc. This would make building a coaster a little easier.
I LOVE UC3D! I think it is just as good as RCT, as I've been playing it non stop since I got it about a week ago.

I have created skins for the coaster cars too, that have been regarded as the best skins there are for UC3d on danimation, and you can see them and download them here:

It's exactly the kind of game I was dreaming of when RCT came out.
How long does Ultra coaster take to download with a 56k modem?
its a totally differenbt concept. RCT is a park, and UC3D is jsut building a coaster. The andvantge to RCT is you get many kinds of coasters. The advantage to UC3D is you are free to do anything. I think they are even.
