Who here is mad that W&W Las Vegas might be closing?

Maybe Orlando needs prostitution, gambling and drinking. It would be one way to tolerate the Disney hysteria! ;)

While I'm all for kid-free places I don't see the big deal about Vegas. I've been there both before and after I was old enough to "partake of the entertainment" and never really "got it" either way.

Isn't there a place for adults that has something to do besides prostitutes, gambling and drinking?

I know Vegas is, and should remain, primarily focused on adults. Many people go there to get away from the kids. I don't see why it can't be a family destination as well though. There is a lot there for kids to do (probably actually more for little kids than older teens). They're got fantastic midways, some good shows, plenty of rides, Star Trek: The Experience, The Fremont Street Experience, and a whole lot more (wish I could still write Coca-Cola and Wet'N'Wild).

Jeff, you might be right, but I doubt my opinion will be changing too much in the coming years (I'll be 21 in May). I suppose Vegas has always been a family destination to me, even if that isn't how its been marketed. *** Edited 3/30/2005 11:45:25 PM UTC by Cedar Creek Mine Ride***

The thing about Las Vegas is that 1.8 million people live here. Many of us have families. It is a shame about wet and wild being torn down. However, rumor has it that something will be built in Henderson or Summerlin to replace it(probably by a different company). Also, last week Scandia was sold and condos are planned to be built on the site now. With a population this large, the area needs more family entertainment. I wouldn't put it downtown, or on the strip, but something must be built. Otherwise, kids get bored and we all know what bored kids are capable of.

Isn't it ironic how the most immature things are labeled as "mature" or for adults?

Sleeping with a prostitute is the very definition of immature, as opposed to a mature, committed relationship. Gambling is a very immature use of money. Drinking... well, that's a high schooler's favorite pastime.

And lots of TV shows use "adult" language, but most adults don't use this kind of language, at least with the frequency that kids do.

In an ironic twist, often my hobbies (roller coasters and video games) are labeled "immature." So lame.

I really don't know what this has to do with the topic, but millrace got me going.

I agree. The Las Vegas area needs a waterpark, not specifically for tourists, but mostly for the locals. Lest you guys forget what kind of weather they deal with 9 months out of the year.

What's wrong with drinking and gambling, anyway? I can't say I do either one very often (no idea what happened to my alcohol tolerance from college), but when I do, does that make me immoral or some kind of degenerate to society?

Isn't prostitution technically illegal in the Vegas city limits? I also thought there was something against handing out that crap on the strip, but perhaps I'm wrong about that.

If you're talking to me... I never said there's anything morally wrong with drinking and gambling. It just makes me laugh that certain pastimes are considered "mature" by the public and certain others considered "immature," without giving it much thought.

I am pretty sure most of the strip is in a different county than the north strip and downtown Vegas, and it's in the southern county that prostitution is legal. I think.

So I'm immature and careless with my money and trying to relive my stupid high school years because I occasionally partake in those two activities? That's a pretty strange, not to mention offensive, generalization of people that do those things. I suppose you're going to label me as perpetually drunk and broke and living in my parents' basement?

And how did millrace's comment get you going? Sure he's my friend, but even if he wasn't, all I noticed was a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek comment that implied nothing. Are you sure this isn't anger spilling over from the infamous PKI Flyers thread?

All of metro Las Vegas, and then some, are located in Clark County. Clark County comprises the souther tip of Nevada. Prostitution is illegal in Clark County. That's why there aren't any brothels in Las Vegas.

Why there are more pamphlets being passed out in some locations as compared to others is beyond me.

As far as the legality of passing out the flyers. It is legal. There have been attempts to stop it but the courts have ruled that it's either everybody or nobody. The content they are passing out is not obscene, in a legal sense, and therefore the judgement cannot be content based. They have just as much of a right to stand there and distribute their 'information' as any other group. So if you want to distribute information regarding your church, club or whatever, you're going to have to allow these people to do so also. That's the law, whether you like it or not.

Yeah is Good!
Rob - settle down. All I was trying to say is that, basically, all hobbies are immature by defintion. Someone who says that playing video games is immature, but then plays golf, is a hypocrite. Same with someone who says riding roller coasters is immature, but then drinks on the weekend.

Maybe I misinterpreted millrace, but I was actually agreeing with what he said. I didn't even remember he was involved in that PKI flyers thing.

Sheesh.

MIGHT be closing....well, sorry to break it to you, but its closed and all the slides have been dismantled. If you want I can send you pictures.

I felt Den was agreeing with me! I find nothing immoral about drinking or gambling but I do see Den's point.

And along the same lines, I recently read an article about Wisconsin Dells being "not just for kids anymore" because the addition of several highly priced upscale spas.

I think the issue is that some of us get annoyed when things we enjoy doing are cast off as immature or kid stuff and proper adult things are either boring (spas - I can't imagine spending a day doing something like that - torture!) or drinking and gambling. Not that there is anything wrong with drinking and gambling but there's more to being an adult then just stuff like that. Roller Coasters for instance. Or, dare I say, DDR? :)

Hey Rob - I was implying that drinking and gambling is the only way you'll get me to tolerate Disney. I was hoping that would get *you* going!

There is push to legalize prostitution with Las Vegas city limits. Its a damn shame to have to drive clear to Nye County. It would be a tax generating boom to downtown Vegas. Remember, the Strip is in Clark County.

Gambling is simply a form of recreation, not a hobby. It all must be in done in check, and within a budget. It is not immature in any way. Should Disney build a casino in Orlando if they get the chance? hell yes. Will they? No one knows today what they may or may not do.

Will there be another waterpark in Clark County / Vegas? I bet there will be at least 2 outdoor one built by 2008, and 2-3 indoor ones. If you need to fix, just stay at Mandalay Bay for the wave pool.

LOL AJ.....if Sandusky is any indication, then gambling in Disney isn't necessarily THAT far off...;)
Well they *do* have strip clubs in Orlando....so that's at least a start :)

...besides, the tallest of water rides looks small compared to those buildings, eh Robo? :)

Perspective is a little off around the strip area. I refuse to believe that the Eiffel Tower at Paris is taller than TTD; I mean, it looks close to 300 ft, but over 420? Yet Paris claims it's actually 460.
It just doesn't seem so.

Many of our hotel towers are in the 300 - 400 range with the tallest being the new Wynn Tower at almost 600ft.

The Paris casino claims their tower is indeed 460 feet tall, why would they lie about that?

The reason for it looking smaller than TTD? Perspective! The Eiffel Tower is surrounded by 400+ foot tall casinos, while Top Thrill Dragster isn't surrounded by anything of comparable height to serve as a point of reference.
