Who has Steel Phantom in their Track Record?

Who has Steel Phantom in their Track Record? I don't know if a lot d, but I can proudly say that I rode Steel Phantom 5 times before it closed. R.I.P.

I have Steel Phantom in my track record. I rode it at KennyKon before Phantom's Revenge was installed. I actually got a poster of Steel Phantom for attending last year and it is one of only two coaster posters.... so it hangs proudly on my wall. The other poster is a poster called "Lost But Not Forgotten" with all of the defunct parks in the Ohio and PA region that includes such parks as Ivyside, Cascade, Olympia Park, Monarch Park, Rock Springs, Euclid Beach and pthers, may they R.I.P. I won it at the KennyKon raffle this year, and it's an awesome poster. I rode Steel Phantom twice that day and that was all I could take. The first two drops were great but the inversions were so rough on my head that I just could not stand going on the ride for a 3rd time. Everyone in my group hated Steel Phantom after the first ride. I'm just happy that Steel Phantom is gonre and Phantom's Revenge was put in. PR is amazing with such awesome forceful airtime. PR has moved up to one of the top coasters in the world.

Yeah, I rode Steel Phantom in the year 2000, 23 days before it closed forever. I rode it about 6 or 7 times. I just loved it a lot the corkscrew was the only inversion that gave me a headache a bit but that didnt stop me from riding it again and again. I miss the Steel Phantom, but may it R.I.P.

I rode the Steel Phantom about 40 times or so before it's demise. It was my favorite Arrow looper. I made 3 trips to Kennywood the final season to bid my farewell (not too bad considering Kennywood is about 275 miles from my place).  I still have to ride Phantoms Revenge yet. I also got one of those Steel Phantom posters at Kenny Kon.

Hello, My name is Dan and I'm a coasterholic.
I got to ride it about 2 weeks before it closed. August 20th and 21st of 2000. It closed around labor day. Amazingly I got to ride it 12 times for the 1 and a half days I was there. Since the Demon at PGA was my first looper at nine years old I have always loved arrow coasters. I never had a problem on the Phantom. The only place I felt was a little rough was riding in the very back. Call me INSANE but the Phantom made my top 3 list for steel. Even now after 114 coasters, it still is in my top 5.

Gravity is your friend while riding a coaster. Your enemy when you trip and fall off a cliff.
My first (and only ) trip to KW in '99, I pull into the parking lot at 1:30 a.m. and stare directly at the magnificent Phantom - taller and faster than anything I'd ridden at that point.  Police car pulls up next to us and inquires as to what we're doing in their parking lot at that time of night.  Jill politely explains that we'd driven from Charlotte to go to Kennywood the following day, and that her boyfriend (me,  walking around getting different views) "just ain't right" when it comes to coasters.  I HOPE I'm paraphrasing, but probably not, LOL.  Anyway, I got 6-7 spins on the Phantom, and I'm so glad I did.  Also happy that KW saw fit to keep the best part of the ride, in accordance with their history - for more info, see "Pippin".

It's on mine. Couldn't tell you how many times I've ridden it. We moved to FL the year it opened. Got my first ride in 1993 when we moved back to PA. Rode it every year from 1993 to 2000.

I never thought it was too bad of a ride. Nothing compares to a 225 foot drop right into a sharp left turn directly into a vertical loop.

I live and breathe Arrow! Of course I've been on it, AND it's successor (which BTW is as close to an Arrow as you can get......it's family!).

I rode the Steel Phantom the year after it opened.  It was a pretty cool ride, and I ended up riding it about 4 times.  I haven't been since, but I'm looking forward to hitting Kennywood again very soon to ride PR.

Kennywood Insider's Guide

Made a trip to Kennywood last year specifically to ride Steel Phantom. Rode it 3 times.

Have not gotten to Kennywood this season to try Phantom's Revenge, but it has got to be an improvement over the original. I found SP to the one of the roughest, most painful coasters I have ever ridden (and that includes Hercules at Dorney Park). I suppose it was not so much roughness, but more "head banging". First two drops were great, but after that it just became painful... too many elements too quickly at too great a speed. I was not impressed.

I rode the Steel Phantom for the first time last year, 33 days before it was closed. I also made sure that it was my 100th rollercoaster that I rode. I only rode it twice but I enjoyed it (although it wasn't too rough as I thought it would be). I ended up at 177 rollercoasters this year, so maybe next year I can make a return trip to Kennywood and make Phantom's Revenge my 200th rollercoaster!  Pretty neat.

407 buzzers have ridden it, so there's quite a few out there ;)

I can't even tell you how many times I rode Steel Phantom.  I was there the day it opened to the public.  It was awesome at the time, but it really went downhill over the years.

Long live Phantom's Revenge.

I too have ridden it, but get even begin to guess how many times.  I loved it when it opened but it got to the point where it wasn't worth the headache/migraines I would get after riding it once.  Phantom's Revenge is much better, I could ride it all day.

Christ how do you kids do it
My first visit to Kennywood was 2 hours last summer (on our coaster vacation from NC which included PKD, BGW, CP, and PKI) to ride their coasters... especially SP. I sat in the front for the view through Thunderbolt. I loved it. I'm sure it was less rough in the front. I wanted to stay longer and ride some more, but we had to get to the Point for the Twilight deal.

Needless to say, 2 hours at Kennywood was not enough, so we gave it a full day this year and I agree that PR is better.

Dan

I rode the Steel Phantom many times.  I know many people did not care for it, but I loved the many times I rode in the front seat at night.  It was completely dark in the ravine.  I can't wait to do the same on Phantom's Revenge when the wait for the front is not as long due to a two train operation.  Personally, the Steel Phantom was not that rough, but once in a while you would get a pretty rough ride.
Ive rode it 3 times with only one great ride and that was in the front seat.

How many times did you ride in the back?

My three rides consisted of the following:

Front seat (first seat, first car): it was intense, but not all that rough (though it was rougher than most). I second CoasterHut's comment on the front seat.

Back Seat (second seat, last car): This was rougher than the front seat... it really shook us around... I would call it "tolerable".

Next to last seat (first seat, last car): this is the one that beat the living out of us and gave us each a headache for a few hours and my wife a sore neck for a week.

From what I have heard from others, where you sat depended alot on the roughness. Perhaps it did not age well, who knows... but personally, I think it was that rough. I mean there was a reason why people were not really riding it that much. On the day we were there the wait was very short (5 min max) for SP, but everything else in the park... coasters and flat rides alike, had modest to long lines (around half an hour each for Jackrabbit and Racer, and an hour for Thunderbolt).

I can say I'm one of 407 people here who rode IMO the world's first and only looper. Well maybe until next year with that 200 foot inverted. After the first two drops it had one of the worst designs

Steel Phantom inspired my first out-of-state coaster trip, after I saw a clip of that famous drop on some newsmagazine show.

I rode it probably 10 times in 3 visits to the park.  I loved it.  My first defunct coaster. <sniff>
