Who has ridden Tomb Raider ?

I have been wanting to know so bad, Is it a Top Spin in a Box ?!?!?! Please tell me !!!

Thanks !!

Hmmm not a top spin no but maybe something GIANT. Maybe if you put GIANT with what you think it is it could be that!
Yes it is a top spin in a box but let me tell you it is better themed in there than some of the Disney/Universal rides. Absolutey great and you go upside down a total of 4 times.

I'm sure in the thousands of Tomb Raider threads, this has been covered already..but, yes it is a Giant Top Spin Ride from Huss. I rode it yesterday (4/6), and thought the ride was a big waste of time, and money. The theming was cool, but not worth the massive built-up that it got.

Once again enthusiasts fail to manage expectations or understand the need to diversify attractions for a larger audience.

IT WAS FRIGGIN HUGE!!!!!! I couldn't belive the size of it and I thought the ride was just amazing, the whole sensory overload made it truly special.

Does CCI know how to make a bad coaster?

Jeff, I understand the need to diversify attractions, and with Tomb Raider I think that PKI has done that brilliantly. However, I will admit that I did look "too much" into the hype that the park gave the ride. With that said, congratulations to the Marketing and Promotions Department for their awesome job. The main reason I went this year was to ride Tomb Raider, so the marketing worked. As I said, however, it wasn't my thing. However, you were right Jeff, Flight Of Fear was unbelieveable and I can't wait to ride that again!

NOOO it is not a Top Spin. It is realy a heavaly theamed and HUGE TA2K.

But realy~does anybody keep up on the news in this site?

Sit up right, hold on tight!

This whole "top spin in a box" expression has got to go

When I hear it, I don't get very excited about the ride

However, when I look at the existing pitcures, descriptions, and accounts of the ride, I want to drive up to PKI to experience it myself.

Are RNRC or OLFOF spaghetti bowls in a box? Is Escape from Pompeii a shoot the chutes in a box? Is Exterminator a wild mouse in a box?

HELL NO!

All of them take a standard theme-park / amusement-park ride, and make them significantly better by adding theming, effects, and maybe even a story.

TRTR is exactly the same way

Wow!

Great examples. Kudos to you!

Shaggy

Rode it both days over the weekend. It is exactly what the park needed! Great job KI.

And Ultimate Trip at Conneaut isn't a Scrambler in a box either! :)

that's the truth! Look at it this way...PKI built TR:TR to give people a certain experience. They wanted to experience 3 different "worlds" in rapid succession. So, they themed up this huge building and built a top spin in the center to move people between the 3 "worlds."

Hey, it works for me! TR:TR is absolutely wonderful. It might not be super extreme or the tallest, fastest, loopy-est, but it keeps you guessing. And I like suprises :)

Wow Helmet... when you put it that way it sure makes a serious point that you can't ignore! Good for you!

i rode it on friday and saturday. what a great thrill ride. darkhelmet, thank you for your words. that needed to be said on this site.

if you haven't experienced the ride yet then it's not really fair for you to pass judgement on it. i've read some posts of people that have ridden the ride and legitimately didn't care for it. hey, that's cool! everyone is different, but to pass judgement on it before ever stepping foot on it, well that is simply ridiculous.

Helmet,

Good way to put it. Myself, I never have understood those that put off indoor rides because they way they look outside. People like that are the people that are more worried about what they are going to wear at a park, then having fun at a park. Not my type of people to hang out with personally.

Sure, some people are going to fail and understand what Tomb Raider is about. Some people simply won't ease up on the whole "flat ride in a box" grip, but I honestly do feel sorry for folks like that because I know they aren't getting much out of rides if they don't look at the big picture in general. It's a pity to be honest. After all, and I am sure others would agree, that this ride, is better than no ride at all.

I have yet to ride TR:TR, but I will later this season. But from what I've heard from the gracious people who have explained the ride, it sounds like a relatively short ride. What this means to me is that I will not ride TR:TR unless there is a short line for it. For me the theming just doesn't make up for a mediocre ride (I'm not saying TR:TR is mediocre, just a generalization about theming). I have a serious question for people who have already ridden TR:TR; if you show up and there is a one hour wait to ride it are you going to wait for it after you've already ridden it? For me the most likely answer is no since I rarely wait for anything for an hour. Now before you go and bash me for not riding it yet, I'm just speculating using the information that I have already accumulated. I know it's not a "top spin in a box", it's a highly themed immersive top spin in a building. But you know what, it still doesn't get me all that excited. Personally I don't see this ride as one that people are going to wait a long time to ride after they've experienced it once or twice, but then again Days of Thunder always had a long line for whatever reason. Kudos to the marketing team for creating a lot of hype around TR:TR, they definately earned their checks.
I went on this ride three times on 4/6 and I loved it. It got better every time I went on it. I only had to wait 10 minutes each time, but it was truly amazing. I love the idea of escaping from the buddha. It gave the ride a sense of adventure, which not all rides do. It is truly a great experience.

I've riddem it twice, and I liked it, the theming is great. The Gondola was huge. And for those of you who are dissapointed, I don't really see why, because the park said a little after TR:TR was announced back in July that it was not a roller coaster.
It sounds to me like the ones who are dissapointed are the ones who had to wait in long lines for it. If I only had to wait in a 10 minute line I'm sure I'd ride it several times (I like Top Spins and am intrigued by the theming). But it doesn't sound like something I would wait in a long line for (well more than once anyway). And FoF, where did anybody say that they were dissapointed because it wasn't a roller coaster? It is possible for someone to not like a ride that you do for reasons other than it not being a coaster.

i waited close to 90 minutes to ride it the first time and was not disappointed, i would wait that long again. the queue and ride are just so unique it's something that i would enjoy experiencing over and over again. i could stay in rivertown for hours simply because of the beast and tomb raider.
