Whizzer status

Personally, I think Iron Wolf is the third best coaster at SFGAm - and that's saying a lot, because I love them all.

I don't think Whizzer is going anywhere... at least, not next year. If the park is creative, they can probably find some other place for a decent sized B&M floorless.

;)

The rumored tree/branch removal "evidence" is probably nothing more than much needed landscaping. On both Whizzer and Iron Wolf, some of those branches come a bit too close to the track. As I mentioned earlier this season, I got smacked in the face with a small branch on the turn into the brake-run on IW. I wasn't seriously hurt, as it hit my forehead instead of my eye... but still.

Speaking of which, Iron Wolf in running extremely well this year... the best I've experienced since it's opening.

Has anyone stopped to think that they might also be removin the trees from around whizzer in order to widen the path to HH?

I haven't seen the tree removal so I don't know exactly where it's taking place, but from the locations I've heard described it sounds like it just may be possible.

They aren't removing trees. They are just being trimmed down.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Oh, and Iron Wolf still ownz.

:)

I personally liked Iron Wolf myself. Quite a bit, actually.
Iron Wolf is tempermental. Some days you can get a glass smooth ride, others are very rough. For example, on the seventh, I got a very smooth ride on it, with hardly any headbanging. It was amazing how fun and intense the ride was. But, the next day, the ride was very rough. But, it seemed like it was running considerably faster also.

Ownz the painful ride market, perhaps?

Deja Vu and Batman.

I guess if we had to say goodbye to a coaster, I would choose Iron Wolf. I love the ride, but every time I go there, the people I go with don't want to ride because it hurts them too much. (And they aren't enthusiasts.) I haven't seen the ride with a significant line since probably 2001. I do claim that Iron Wolf has the BEST CORKSCREW I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED! But Demon can't go because it is a good first looping coaster for those who like to work up to it, and we lost Shockwave so we need some kind of traditional looping coaster to back it up.

If we do see any improvement next year though, I would like nothing more than to see American Eagle spruced up with a fresh coat of paint and an improved entrance (Love the wooden entry gate, hate the off-white dingy circus tent). Oh, and how about some descent food, hire an acclaimed chef or at least get some outside restaurant in the park because paying $8 for a chewy, dry, chicken sandwich in a restaurant with wobbly tables that haven't been wiped, flies, and a sticky floor is ludicrous.

I only went to SFGAm once this year and I honestly don't see the point in returning for some time. I've turned into a day of non-stop entertainment *cough* Disney *cough* not the "YAY we made it on the ride"...30 seconds of YAY...and then, "It's HOW long of a walk to that ride?!" I just am not as entertained by the thrills anymore, give me the surreal experience or at the very least friendly service anyday.

Mildly amused since 2003.
I guess it's bad when the die hard "dies."
I actually like the "off-white dingy circus tent".

It reminds me of the Marriott days when they actually held a circus there. The tent serves a good purpose now. It provides shelter from rain, etc and also houses the Eagle entrance, picnic tables, restaurant, and small arcade.

It would just not be right if it wasn't there.

As far as the food? I never really cared one way or the other. I go to these parks to ride. Not care what is really on the menu. The only food I eat in the park now is from the Panda restaurant. Gotta love the orange chicken. :)

nate-You don't like Viper? Well, you obviously like it, you said the coasters at the park were good, but not over Batman?
I like Viper, but (for me at least) it gets overshadowed by the other coasters in the park. I used to be a really big Viper fan, but my love for the ride has dwindled in recent years. I'm not exactly sure what it is about the ride that just doesn't do it for me. Perhaps it's just a bit too tame for me. There's certainly good airtime from the double down on, but overall it just feels too tame or controlled for me.

I usually enjoy really intense, really balls-to-the-walls rides, which Batman (and Iron Wolf too) fits perfectly. Most of my top ten wooden coasters are fairly "out of control" (Raven, Avalanche, Legend, Boulderdash, Gwazi). Maybe Viper is just a bit *too* smooth.

I can see that. I don't remember much about Viper other than it blew me away in 99', and I've wanted to get back to it since.

Iron Wolf? One of the (very) few stand ups I like by B&M. In fact, most of what I rode at SFGAm blew me away...

I just wish the customer service had been better that day, and that all the buildings were painted. I have to get back there and give it a fair shot now.

You will notice a big difference Tekno if you visit again soon.

The buildings are all painted (most at least) and the customer service as far as I am concerned is equal to say Cedar Point.

SFGAm may not have the record breakers or firsts anymore (they did boast this alot in earlier years), but what I find great about this park is the diverse collection of coasters that they do have. You really can't find 2 coasters in the park that are even remotely alike in the sense of how they ride.

Having the new waterpark is also a plus now. It feels like you are going into a new territory of the park. With all that SFGAm has now, I believe it's now a 2 day park to cover it all. *** Edited 8/13/2005 7:25:08 AM UTC by Chitown***

One thing that I kept saying when I was there was "Why don't they have a waterpark?" I do hope to get back, I'm thinking a quick weekend trip next year if I find a cheap enough flight.

The coasters were all top notch (even Shockwave, RIP), and now they have even more. I'm actually excited to go back. I still don't know if part of the reason I wasn't 'impressed' overall could be due to some anticipointment, as well as being on a bus with 20 other high schoolers for 13+ hours the night/morning before.

I will get back. And hopefully before Whizzer is gone for good, since that was my missed credit (let us hope it doesn't leave this year...)

Only SFoT can claim a better collection of coasters within the chain....and even that's arguable. If GAdv and SFMM had the kind of customer service that *I* experienced in Chicago and Arlington, SFI would be closer to $10/share....alas. Of course, I'd rather have SFoT's Shockwave & Giant, or SFGAm's V2 & Whizzer, over ANY record-breaking coaster I've ridden.

Tekno, Mooshy mentioned my name when he said Whizzer's staying put...and he KNOWS not to BS me about my Antons, LOL... ;)
