Whining about pay-per-ride attractions is lame

carpediem:

I do have a season pass to SFWoA...but no other parks. I really don't mind that parks have PPR attractions I just disagree with them having them everywhere you go.

I also disagree with taking out good attractions to put in a PPR attraction.

While I do think that these things are wrong...especially in some of the corporate parks...I DO NOT let it get to me. In all actuality I don't let anything get to me.

If you have seen some of my past posts (mostly in topics dealing with SFWoA bashing and CP is the greatest) I have stated that I go to the park to have fun...not get ready to critisize the park and ***** about everything I find wrong with the place. People that go to complain are missing the whole meaning of going to a park. I went to WoA 20+ times last summer and I did not have one bad day (except when I had a migrane from the heat...but that wasn't the parks fault).

Parks are parks...don't expect them to be perfect. Sure some things may bother you (PPR attractions, prices of food, quality of food, parking prices) but just let them go...there are ways to avoid getting all bent out of shape about them. For example I don't ride the PPR attractions, I bring my own food...which is good food, and I buy parking vouchers. Although SFWoA really needs a parking pass...but that's a whole nother story...:)

carpediem, believe it or not, SOME of the parks (the ones really interested in how "regulars" feel) actually read some of the more relevant and well-thought arguments here and on other sites...

The one argument I'd like to stress is that a lower cost on PPR's is likely to INCREASE ridership, and the potential is there to generate more revenue by charging LESS....and longer ride cycles (on Skyscrapers, etc., or even TWO rides, while you're still "hooked up", in a SlingShot or SkyCoaster) might get more people to try it out the first time....I have a degree in economics (even though it's an SEC school;)) and an appreciation for the psychology of thrill rides...the first ride IS the one they need to get you on! But I have THE idea for how to make these suckers REALLY pay off...somebody in Charlotte or OK City just needs to hire me...hmmmmm, gotta wonder if they have the "savvy"...:)

Also, we need to realize that, as parks are realizing the need to "give away the gate" in the form of discounted admissions and season passes, etc., they WILL find other ways to generate income once you're inside the gate...facts of life (and business)...

I must confess to not knowing the history of most of the posters on this particular board, and I have not read the body of posts as a whole from those posting here. I "surf" the net reading information/stories about rollercoasters and parks (along with 1,000 other subjects, but that is another avenue).

I would concur with the people who in fact do feel their well thought-out and business-like sounding comments and letters are read and do get responses at times. I have dealt with that kind of stuff(Not in the amusement industry). It also serves as a small outlet for those that feel they are being slighted in some way.

I will be the first to also admit my wife and I have taken advantage of any and all fastlane/lo-q/etc. fee ride structure around. Why? Cause the money really is secondary to having an enjoyable time. When we take coaster/park trips without our kids, we are there to have a good time. If that means paying an extra $20-$30 day, then so be it. This is exactly what parks are looking for. They will find the balance of diffferent groups of patrons, but you can be assured of one thing, that balance will ultimately fall in-line with maximizing revenue intake and the expenditures to meet those goals. Yes, I have even paid a couple of times for the SFWOA ride passes last year on our visits there. Last year we visited approx. 15 - 20 parks. A few corporate parks, and many indep. parks. One stretch saw the family do 10 parks in 7 days. The kids loved-it, and were chanting "10 parks" for the better part of last summer. I had no problem with paying whatever when needed. I believe of those 10 parks one was a Paramount and one was a Six Flags, both of which we had family season passes to be admitted to. My wife and I visited the Disney parks last fall and had an enjoyable time. We did all the parks with multiple visits to a few of them in only 3 days. Now you want to talk about paying for things, and being hypnotized while a vacuum tube is attached to your wallet........

Get-out there and enjoy the parks/rides/atmosphere. You don't have to be a professional, a student, a carpenter, a salesperson, an employed individual, etc. to enjoy amusement parks. You do however need to have the right frame of mind and just "go with the flow".

RGW: An SEC school huh? Well in the recent "Ultimate Report Card", I think the SEC failed miserably. (Did they even have a team make it to the Elite Eight...come to think of it even the sweet sixteen?)

Seriously though, I dont have a beef with the upcharge attractions in the park. I'd *prefer* that they were outside like at CP (what if I really just wanted to ride the slingshot, I have to pay for a *whole* day at the park?). At places like SFGAdv, it's hard to ***** and moan because they already have more than enough free stuff to occupy your time.

BUT! my beef comes in that you'll see rides such as the scrambler and looping starship closed "due to lack of staff" but the upcharge attractions are running full strength. *That* to me is a load of crap. And I mean a BIG load. So if you think that being miffed about that is lame. Well, then you can take all of your upcharge attractions....shine 'em up real nice....turn dem sum-bytches sideways and stick straight up you candy AZZ!

If the shoe fits, find another one.

There are some complaints about upcharge staffing and ride staffing. At some parks the upcharge rides are operated by a different department than the rides department.

At SFEG, TFC is coming ! ;)

I just found this one.......it's easy.

If you want to ride the extra admission rides, pay for it. If not, then don't. Overall, it's so easy to be negative in life, why complain? Just walk away and go have fun, your way. I rode a sky coaster, and one of those "atomic blast'' orbs......it was fun, but will not do it again. Once is enough, I got my rush......and the best 4 letter word in any relationship (especially with women) is...........NEXT.

I agree Woody. Just because a park decides *not* to add a pay-per-ride, does not mean they would natually add a free attraction to that same area, so what are you really losing by just walking past it to what you normally ride?

-----------------
Have you ever considered that maybe it's not the park that's the problem, but YOU?

Pay-per-ride atttractions are there as an option. If you want to pay to ride them, thats fine, if you dont want to pay, then dont ride them. These attractions take up very little space, and add to the parks revenue. This revenue is what is used for new rides and improvements to the park. These rides especially benefit parks which are limited on space. They allow these parks to add a new thrill ride, to keep the patrons coming. And the smaller parks cannot afford the millions for the mega coasters and such, so its an alternative to keep the park growing.
