(And 'moosh: let the kid grow into the traditional parks. When you were 16, you wouldn't have chosen a smaller traditional park over a big corporate one, either.)
Holiday World may very well be my favorite park, even though I probably haven't been to as many parks as most around here. I like it way better than my home park SFSTL and think it's better than CP in many aspects.
But, a lot of the small traditional ones are few and far between from here, with maybe IB being one of the few exceptions and even that is probably four hours or so. Most are a decent drive such as Knoebel's or Kennywood to name a few, which are probably at least 12+ hour drives. Now, I'm not saying that they aren't worth it the least bit, but that long of a drive isn't always practical, whether it be money or any other factor.
I just think that some that are pretty far away may have to wait until I would be nearby for some reason or another. I would love to get to Knoebel's to see what all the talk is about, but when you're 700+ miles away from somewhere, it's not always that easy.

Understatement of the thread!!! What park isn't... oh SFEG? Frontier City too... hmm... never mind ;)
I understand what you mean about the traditional parks being quite a trip from Mighty MO. That's why you save those and build them into the "DESTINATION TRIPS". Enjoy the local corporate parks that MO has to offer - you really can't beat the HFEC parks in Branson or WOF in KC. Then when you grow up a little more you can take these trips like most of us do. Paitence apprentice. ;)
Yes I would and did. I chose Adventureland many times over SFStL AND I had more fun.
Sure, but would you say that you were "normal"?
Didn't think so. ;)
(We'll have to arrange to meet, so that I can know you post-facto. I'm still trying to negotiate the Fall Affair.)
As far as SFStL...those of you who've been there MANY times may have a different opinion, but I *loved* the place and found it to be one of the best-run parks in the chain. Basically, it seemed like an ideal "mid-sized" SF park...not SFGAm, SFGAdv, SFMM, SFoT....but an excellent model for what SFA *could, and should* be...
Is SDC *way* more scenic, photogenic, relaxing...sure. Is WoF a really good smaller CF park....sure. But SFStL to me was indicative of the original vision of Angus Wynne, and an excellent park overall - I even went back for a couple hours the night before flying out, time that I *could* have spent enjoying CC some more...
I will tackle both the Boss and Oz-cat (for the first time) this September so I am curious to find out what the fuss is about.
