Which OS?

I'm getting a new computer and I have my choice of operating systems to install. I can choose Win2000, the new Win me, Win98, Win NT... which one is the best for running RCT (and other games)?

Thanks!

It works OK on 98 and Me, but not on NT (which I think is still stuck in the DirectX 3 days). 2000 should work in theory, assuming that the issues with the save/load dialogues were fixed in Loopy Landscapes.

Still, unless you have some good reason to be considering network security, just stick with Me.

If you don't know if you need Windows 2000 or not, you don't need it.
I think there was a later NT service pack that updated it to DX5, but I'm not that sure, I just have a vague memory of it. RCT still didn't work though.

98 is your best bet.

98 or ME. As Jmstuckman said, if you don't know whether or not you want NT, then you don't.

Incidentally, LL was SUPPOSED to run under Win2K, but doesn't due to a bug that slipped past final testing -- Hasbro wasn't certifying the game for Win2K, so they didn't test on it, and the bug (LL immediately crashes while trying to load under Win2K) slipped through. Sawyer has said there will be a patch to fix that, because he'd INTENDED to unofficially support Win2K, but the current result is even WORSE than in earlier versions.

I'd definetly get ME first. Windows ME is a good choice to get in your situation, however if you own Win 98 I wouldn't update to ME until you got a new computer.

You build it, I'll ride it

Does any one have Loopy Landscapes operating under Windows Millenium Edition? I'm getting a new computer and I also have the choice of Windows ME or 98 Second Edition, and although I would like to have newer technology, I'm scared to try ME because of the WIN2000 problems. I will probally just stick with 98 unless anyone knows if it works well or not. Thanks.

LL + WinME works -- it's still Win95/98 under the skin, not NT.

I have LL on Windows ME. ME is great and everything runs excellantly.

I have 2000 and it works great with the new official patch. I had been forced to boot into 98 to play until now. I have yet to find a trainer that will work since applying this patch and running the game in win2K, however RCT itself does run fine.
Funny, I downloaded the new patch, and still have the same problems as pre-patch under Win2K (crash on launch). Glad it works for SOMEONE :/

Are you using an altered version of RCT GregLeg? I still haven't been able to find a trainer that works under win2k, although the newest drexler patch seems to work fine (installed last night). If I had a choice I would choose 2000 over ME just for stability. (Can't run some games though)
Nope, I don't use any mods/trainers, this is straight RCT installation, followed by LL installation, followed by patch installation, fails to run under Win2K.

If it crashes on launch, it has to be something hardware related (well, not really, but it could be). My guess is that since it makes noise first thing at start-up, that you have sound or video drivers that are pissing off the game. I've seen it before...

Yup, that's my guess as well, Jeff. There were reports of problems with RCT, Win2K, and my sound card (Sound Blaster Live!), which I'd though the patch was going to fix. I haven't checked Creative's site for updated Win2K drivers yet, though.
