Where to stay in Sandusky?

Is it worth staying at one of the resort hotels? Are they really really expensive?
I've never stayed at any CP resort, simply because the price is always very high. Many people will tell you Breakers Express isn't expensive, but it is. The last time we were at the park, our hotel room cost $50 and Breakers Express was advertising on its sign out front a rate of $109! And our hotel room that trip was great!!! My husband and I are season pass holders at CP, and we like the Clarion Inn or the Travelodge, both located on route 250. The rooms are clean, well kept, and are just what you want for a great night's sleep after a long day at the park!

Staying at the park is well worth it. Don't know about this year, but last season Sandcastle rooms were running at $199 - they sleep 6.

My wife is a General Manager for Marriott and we can stay just about anywhere there is a Marriott hotel (Fairfield Inn, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Springhill Suites, etc) for free and we still pay the money to stay in the park during our CP trips. It's just so much easier to have a place to duck out to that's right in the park.
Well, previously I have never stayed at the resorts. Usually I will stay someplace right along the road there (forgot the name of the road), and there are a bunch of hotels there, in every price range. Last year I was going for cheap so we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. We payed under 90$ I think, and it was perfectly clean and nice, and great for the money. Frankly, if I am spending the days at the point, I dont really care where I sleep!;) But, this year I'm going to be staying at the Breakers, and I'm lookin' forward to it!

When we went, we got a great deal at the Breakers Express, and we were the only people there. They also got a game room, pretty cool! Definitely a good choice.

I almost prefer to be a little away from parks so there's a little drive between the hotel. You can stop and get breakfeast(or lunch if it's raining), stay somewhere a little cheaper, like 15-20 minutes away. Motel6 has some nice rooms, they had a new one about 10 minutes away(Motel6 means the dog stays, too:)), and it's only $35-45. I've always hated staying right in the middle of the action.
The prices vary depending on the time of year. If you are going now, you will pay quite a bit more than in May and September. The Breakers is a neat old hotel. The advantage of being 2 minutes away from the gate and having a place to rest or change after water rides has to be compared with price ot the room. If you have little kids with you, it can be well worth it.

All pricing in that area is time sensetive, and in most cases distance sensetive. I for one can't put a price on the convenience of staying on-point, but then again money is never an issue when it comes to travel for me because I'll either do it right or not at all.

Yes, they are very expensive but worth every penny , in my opinion. Our room ran $139 a night at Breakers and it's the only way I'll do it anymore. I tend to change clothes three times a day at CP (daytime clothes, water ride clothes and evening clothes) so being able to walk right back is great. We also kept a fully stocked cooler in our room (bread, lunch meat, fruit, milk, juice, etc.) and eat breakfast and lunch there, which saves some cash. I also can leave my cameras in the room and not have to worry about the film getting over-heated in the car or locker.

I would like to know where the best hotel or motel to stay at for a four day stay? Is there one around or between the $85.00 to $115.00 range I need some help on searching for the best place to stay at. Any help would be great.

Well, if you go to the parks section of this site, and search for Cedar Point, click on the CP link, then click "book travel," you'll get a complete list of hotels. Here, I'll even save you the trouble:
http://www.coasterbuzz.com/parks/park.asp?ParkID=8

You can do this for any US park listed in our database, and I get a small kick-back if you book.

What is the nicest hotel at CP? I am planning on going this summer. Any compared to the rooms in Vegas?
I'm heading up to the Point the first week of August and I've booked a night at Motel 6 in Toledo and a night at the Best Western 15 minutes away from Sandusky.

Jan, while you will be ok as your obviously over 21 I'd like to remind anyone planning to go to the Point with a group of friends that you have to be at least 21 to check in.
Breakers Express is really nice. I went last year, and no one was there, and it was right there. it was really nice!!!

Very VERY cool. Again, thank you all for your help. It'll depend on how tired we are and how much $$ we have. I am leaning towards being close to the park. I think we'll be staying at the Indiana Beach resort for sure. Motel 6? I can hang with Motel 6...But for an entire day...hmmm It'd be nice to be able to get out of the mayhem for a couple minutes a coupla times.

Looks like we'll be doing at least 30 miles of coaster track on this trip (maybe more!). I can't wait. ;) I write up a nice little trip report when it is all said, done, and rode.
