Where to stay for SRM???

It appears that there are no hotels anywhere near Santa Claus, Ind. I'm looking to stay Friday night near HW, and I'm taking off the next morning to go to SFKK on the way back to Columbus. Any suggestions on places to stay between HW and SFKK?

We were staying at a hotel about 7 miles from Holiday World on Friday and then the Santa Claus Lodge (less than 1 mile from HW) Saturday night, but someone cancelled for Friday at Santa Claus, so we are staying there both nights. I am sure the other hotel has rooms available. There are links to hotels at the parks website, holidayworld.com. For Louisville, there are a lot of hotels at the airport, which is beside the park. We are staying at the Executive Inn, which is basically at the entrance to SFKK.

Mark,
Go to Expedia.com and instead of typing in Santa Claus, IN try Dale, IN or better yet Jasper, IN. You should find a handfull of hotels.

One caveat, both Jasper and Dale are actually north of Holiday World and not east. So they really arent *between* HW and SFKK. But they are not so far off the beaten path as to really be an inconvinence.

Star/Jeremy-

Thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to meeting you Jeremy, should you decide to attend. While I don't always agree with your opinions, I always appreciate that you have one that you are capable of eloquently defending.

My husband and I will be staying at Lake Rudolph which is next door to Holiday World. If camping is your thing, this is a great place to stay.

Yeah, we stayed at the Executive Inn in Louisville for last year's SRM....a bit of a drive, but I did get to wake up and look out the windows of "jeremy's Beemer"....LOL. Man, teasing fellow buzzers sure is a whole lot of fun......

This year, we've decided to try Lake Rudolph so Jill can read/nap while I make sure Raven stays in top form throughout the event.....(oh yeah, I'll also make sure the PTCs on Legend are safe before the event).....

There's a ton of hotels in Tell City, IN, but it's about a half-hour from the park. The city is right on the beautiful Ohio River. Try the Holiday Inn Express - very nice.

I'm in Jasper. Since Steph and I won't be visiting Hawaii any time soon, we've gotta do it right in the mean time.

We'll be camping at Lake Rudolph as well. I'm a bit tentative about the whole camping and coasters thing (I really value rest), but the price was right.

Jeff - One night in Jasper, Indiana will make you forget you ever even heard of Hawaii.

Man, i've spent about an hour on the phone...serves me right for doing this last minute. I got a room at the Days Inn in Jasper, which I think was the last hotel in a 40 mile radius with a room. Enthusiasts must be descending on this place like a yugnowut. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

....wondering if it's possible (make that necessary) for Lake Rudolph to keep all the CBers in a sepaprate section of the campground, far away from the "normal enthusiasts"....LOL....see you all there!

Mark - Once piece of advice: when the park announces SRM2003 dates later this year make hotel reservations immediately even if you're not sure you're going to attend. You can always cancel them. Its what I've been doing for the last few years after finding myself in the same situation you're in now.

Don't forget "Operation Graduation" June 1st @ SRM - bring Pat Koch a graduation card! See Coasterbuzz News for details.

I'm also wondering the samething. I will be going to SRM on June 1st for the 2nd day. But I may stay in Louisville, Kentucky because during my 1st stretch of coaster riding ;), on Sun, June 2nd I will be going to Kentucky Kingdom in the morning till early afternoon, then heading up to Indiana Beach. Does anyone have any suggestions on good hotels or motels in the Louisville area for a 2 night stay? Leaving, this Friday at 1:30pm! Thanks.

Waiting to the last minute for SRM hotels is a big no no. I myself messed around and didn't try to get a room until a couple of weeks ago. Luckily, Gregleg had an extra room he wasnt using at Santa's Lodge. THANKS MAN!!!! I really appreciate it :)

Theme parks will NEVER be the same!

There's a brand new Comfort Inn at I-64 Exit 63 (Ferdinand--seven miles from the park). They have rooms available both Friday and Saturday nights (I just talked to them). Their number is 812-367-1122. They're waiting for your calls...

See you soon! Paula

Mark, I'm suprised you had such troubles! Right before I wrote the above reply to your original post I myself was on Expedia looking for rooms. I had my choice of about 6 different hotels. I thought it was going to be much harder but it was a breeze. I truely LOVE the internet!

With Expedia, the problem was I would go through the whole thing, and at the end they would show that the room actually wasn't available. At your recommendation, I did use it to find the Days Inn room, but everything else I clicked on was actually not available.

Though Tell City is a few miles, we (the Rideman brigade from Columbus OH) usually find good rates there. 3 days to go kids! I'm so happy I could cry.

THANKS PAULA! After much consideration, we decided that after 3 1/2 hours of ERT, we probably should "give in" and get a hotel for the night. It's only a 2 1/2 hour drive from my home to HW, but that would be a long day!

See everyone Saturday afternoon! Looking forward to meeting some fellow coaster crazies! You most likely will find us riding The Legend!
