Where is Ron Toomer now?

Where is he? What was most current design?

I saw him on a TV show some time ago. I think he retired from designing coasters, I think. I'm not sure, and I'm not sure where he is now.

What happen to Anton Schwarzkopf and his company??
They bankrupted a few times and the genious Anton is now retired. His son Weiland* is still designing rides, however, like those fantastic new over-the-shoulder-restraint trains that they put on Texas Tornado at SFAW, ran for a few hours, then closed it for the rest of the season. I guess that didn't fare out too well eh?

>Ron Toomer is now Retired.

Well, Arrow sorta forced Ron into retirement from their company.

>like those fantastic new over-the-shoulder-restraint trains that they put on Texas Tornado at SFAW

There are two problems with these restraints.

One: The "gap" between the sides is too wide.

Two: The rubber which Schwarzkopf used was too hard.

If the gap were smaller, the rubber would be fine. If the rubber were softer, the gap would be fine. Yes, this was a design flaw on the behalf of Weiland Schwarzkopf's company. However, remember this was their first attempt at an OTSR.

Having been one of the *very* few people that got to ride the coaster this year (in the whole 3 hours it was open on opening day) I CAN say that with the new restraints, I was thrown around in my seat QUITE a bit (not in a bad way, mind you) because the old style accordians held you in more. While this does give you some interesting airtime on the ride, it also causes you to come into contact with the restraint more.

What are the new rides that Antons company creates now?
anton's work is being continued by his son and others for the company Zierer. Here is a link to their site.

Zirer? (Looks at pen) ... well, uhm, this pen that I received at their booth at IAAPA 2000 says "Schwarzkopf GMBH".

whooops! I forgot, they made the new cars for Thriller, huh? I guess the Bavarian Mountain Railroad designs were sold to Zierer, since the last few were made by them. That was the last coaster they made, right?

Well, they made the new restraints, anyway. It was the same cars.

Unfortunately, according to reports, Anton Schwarzkopf has recently (today or yesterday) passed away. There is a separate thread on this.
