When you were teh n00b...

I was just browsing through some old e-mails and I found the following. I wrote this the day after the first time I played DDR in the arcade, and I was sending it to someone who was a pretty experienced player:

"I can't remember the names of my favorite dance songs. One of them had two sections where there were about 20 jumps in a row, some in the corners like ^> . Another had a Latin beat and all the steps were on the off-beats. Another one had a slow section where the arrows slowed waaaay down and you had to listen to the music to know when to start again. Another one had a slow section where there were some eighth notes... like 1234boom boom!..."

LOL! I was trying to get him to tell me the names of those songs, but obviously he had no idea what I was talking about. *I* can't even figure them out now... I'm pretty sure that last one is .59 (though I don't know why I thought it slowed down), and the Latin one is La Seniorita.

Did you do anything really stupid when you were a n00b?

It took me forever to realize what crossing-over was about and how useful it is. I remember playing many a game trying to double step those sections.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I thought you had to stay in the center the entire time, and couldn't hit a wrong arrow. Before long, I found out otherwise... :)
