Wheel covers, what is their purpose?

Just wondering what the purpose of wheel covers is. Also, I seem to remember that sometime last year, they disappeared from a few B:TR's, SUE, and both V2s. Does anyone know why SF did this?
Probably for theming and to protect them(from what, I don't know)

Don't know what SF would do that for.

I think the wheel covers are mainly for looks.

I always thought they were to keep hydraulic fluid off the guests. But if they were removed, I might have to guess again.

I thought the Batman looked hot with those wheel covers. I guess it is an aesthetic thing. I have never seen the wheel covers for the Impluses....(off scouting for pics)
Prob for aesthetics, and arrowdynamics??

V2 out here in Cali hasn't used them since the modifications, and didn't use them when it first opened. At the beginning of this season, however, I saw ALL of the wheel covers in the station very clearly while it was still in rehab (they were puting the train back on at this time.) It would have been neat to see them come back, but doesn't make a huge diference to me.

Batman at SFMM usually has them on, and I think they look great. The B&M trains look naked without them!

S:UE is the only intamin invert ive seen with wheel covers, they were snazzy with the lil superman logo on them if i remember correctly. Volcano the Blast Coaster could use them, it looks totally bare, and always has....i assumed when the ride opened that it didnt have covers because they didnt want any extra weight on the trains, due to all the problems with the LIMs they had at the opening....maybe not?
Wicked Twister used to have wheel covers, but they weren't used past media day if I recall correctly. There are some promo. pics of WT with pretty snazzy wheel covers.
