What's up with the gum?

Why don't the put up signs anyone caught sticking gum on wall will be ejected from the park without a refund. Then people would think twice about it. Either that or when the find a person doing it give them a scraper and go thru the queue and scrape all the gum off.

I'm sure the signs would probably work a little. I just wonder how much time is spent scraping gum at parks.

Mantis has a gum thingy below it where the train passes under at the end.

Signs warning of ejection won't help. Lets face it, if you are dumb enough to stick your gum on a wall, you

A. probably can't read anyway

or

B.don't really care about the consequences.

Besides I have the bad feeling that having signs like that would just give people ideas, and allow them to see how much they can get away with.

i taught my sister a lesson when she tried to stick gum on a wall in a queue for a log ride. i simly took the pack away from her and chucked it in the water. although it probably stressed the filter, it gave relief to workers as i taught her a lesson and she will never do it again.

At PKI, the gum tree used to be in line for the White Water Canyon ride...for years, it seemed it was the same pieces of gum added to that tree. I didn't notice it anywhere else in the park, and everytime I went thru the line, people seemed entertained by it. I never once heard anyone say "that's disgusting" but I seen alot of people add to it. However, having it happening all over the park is another thing altogether. That's lack of respect.

Nothing can beat the gum wall At CLP though, they don't even take it down, the just paint over it, its sick. But the walls, gum in all, must be like 5 inches thick with gum! no joke!

Matt, we use the good ol' gum freeze too, but usually we try and get to cleaning the gum out of problem spots during idle time. (When we're down for weather, when we have extra people scheduled, etc.) I agree though it does suck to clean, and knock on wood Park Services at VF tends to do a good job of preventing gum build up when Rides can't clean it.

I noticed Mean Streak last year had a ton of gum (and pennies) stuck on one or two of the supports just before you board.

The entrance to the haunted house (the ride one) at Miracle Strip has a tree you walk through that I remember was covered w/ gum years ago.

And F/O does have a good amount.

People only do it because they see the other gum there. So if employees cleaned off the gum every day, there'd be less to clean off. ;)

I would think that there must be a certian kind of paint, stain, or other type of coating that can be used in "problem areas" that would make gum either not stick, or at least easier to scrape. I think the trees in the Goliath queue are wrapped in burlap for this purpose.

Face it, there is no way to keep the lack-wits from sticking their gum in places. You can only do damage control... sigh.

You can't chew gum in school, because of those people who stick it under the desk. I'm a gum chewer, have been for years, and will probably be one for many more years. I always keep the wrapper in my pocket and toss my gum, in a waste basket, before getting onto a ride. Friday night me and my finacee where at Joyland we were in line for the dark ride there when she stepped into a huge wad of chewed gum. It was in the middle of the line. It was extremely nasty and rude.

I have run into this problem in several parks. I don't mind if they stick it onto a wall or poll as much as I do the ones who just spit it out on the ground.
