Whats the max weight a steel support can handle???

It depends on a million things....the length of the support, the unbraced length (space between bracing), the shape of the steel, the grade of the steel,  the slenderness ratio, the radius of gyration, how it's connected to it's base, and a million more things that I should remember from my Structures IV class that I just took.  Could you be more specific?
