What's makes a good dark ride?

I don't know which one is my favorite, but I know which one is my LEAST favorite, the Phantom Theater at PKI....don't waste your time on it, its not good....again, PKI and themeing does not go well.

You can say that again! I love those 'kiddie' parks(well, I'm not that crazy about USF, but they have some very decent ideas, just in need of a little updating)!

A few of my favorites would be both DL and WDW Haunted Mansions, Space Mountains, inners of Splash Mtn., and Pirates of the Caribbean(and the list goes on!), PKI's Flight of Fear and Phantom Theatre, and Universal Orlando's MIB, Cat in the Hat, and Spidey. Busch's Journey to Atlantis and Escape from Pompeii are excellent as well.

Hopefully in April, I can make another addition to that list: Tomb Raider:The Ride!

I can't believe people are bad mouthing ET!  Last time i went I told the people my was zeke.  It was funny.

Skull Mountain at SFGAdv is a pretty cool dark ride in my opinion. The queue is muffled so you can't hear any rumbling sounds while in line, so you would think the ride is mild. Plus they play a freaky rock song out loud as soon as you hit the first drop.
Although Skull Mountain really isn't a dark ride (its just an indoor coaster) I do find the cheesy death metal soundtrack to be pretty amusing.  *thumbs up*

It's all about themeing. Some might say speed. Good for rollercoasters, but not for the rides like Spiderman or Haunted Houses. A good dark ride is a ride in which for a few moments you really forget you're at an amusement park, when you actually feel like a part of the ride, rather than a spectator.
Mr.Toads Wild Ride. Why hasn't anyone mentioned it yet?

Ahhh... Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. What a classic. My first experience with it came at Walt Disney World in 1986 and I was completely underwhelmed. I guess I was just expecting something a little better after having experienced Pirates and Haunted Mansion. The "cardboard cutout" look just didn't do anything for me. Fast forward 2 years and a trip to Anaheim. The Toad ride out there was awesome. The ride took place in Toad Hall, not a big pink tent, the animation (if you want to call it that) was better, and the whole ride just seemed, well, fun. Despite the horrendously slow-moving queues, Toad is a must-see on any visit to Disneyland. Riding down the "Road to Nowhere In Particular" is definitely "wild", and the fact that you steal a car, end up in court, get hit by a train and die, and wind up in hell at the end.... well, that just doesn't seem like a ride for kids now does it?
