ScreamScape says Canobie might get a wave swinger:

2003 - Rumor - (12/17/01) We have been told that the Flying Angels (Wave Swinger) that was proposed for the 2001 season may still happen in 2003.

Well, whats a wave swinger?

Out of the coasters i've ridden here is wat i rank them overall:(ive been to canobie lake and SFNE)
1. S:RoS 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Riverside Cyclone 4. Canobie Corkscrew 5. Thunderbolt 6. Galaxy 7. Mind Eraser 8. Dragon coaster 9. poison ivy's tangled

The Whirligig at SFGAm is an example of one. I'll try to find some pics of it for you.

edit: Not SFGAm's, but PNE Playland's. Nearly identical, except at SFGAM the ride op is not inside the ride. http://www.joyrides.com/pne_playland/full/wave_swinger.htm

A Wave Swinger is one of the most common swing rides found in parks. Available in 3 sizes, and most commonly manufactured by Zierer, these have gorgeous lights and artwork and can bee seen at parks like Cedar Point, Kennywood, Kings Island and SFGAm.

Sorry, never been there. If you have ridden a ride that looks anything like the above links then that's it!

Another version of the ride is called the flying carousel made by Zamperla. This ride can be found at SFA,it is the same as the Zierer version except for the art work and lights and it spins in the opposite direction as the above mentioned ride.
They are often at state/county fairs too.

They are GREAT rides, esp. at night with all the lights going.  For me, it's the one ride I wish BGT would get...(save of course an Intamin hyper or out-n-back woodie).  Every park should have one... I think basically if you have a carousel, a Wave Swinger, and a woodie, you have the necessary ingredients to start a great park!
