Whatever happened to a new SFWoA coaster?

"How come only about half the people on this site can understand that the real world doesn't work like RCT?"

My world does, Brett! ;)

mOOSH - who understands Brett's frustration

I envy you then! Where do I sign up for that world? =) Hell, I'd just take a job that resembles RCT ...

Brett - that job sounds nice but I'd always be worried about a set of giant pincers coming down from the heavens, picking you up by the back of the neck, and putting you down in a new place [which, if you're like me, is into a lake to drown!].

Moosh... how could you? Do you realize how much drowning an employee in a lake affects your turnover?

Of course, it does put the "Fear of God" into the other drones ;)

I also drown any guest who passes a Info Booth, doesn't buy a map, and then compains about getting lost. And some day I'm goign to catch the bastrad who breaking all the benches, put him on a launcher with a short spike, and launch him into an explosive crash!
I always found it amazing that one employee was able to break those benches in two and dent all the trash cans... ungrateful bastard! Doesn't he/she know that all I'm trying to do is make people happy?
Yes but if video games have taught us anything its that if you kill off your employees, you can just click a few buttons and hire some more! Wow, all of a sudden this disucssion has come full circle ... perhaps WoA needs to apply this concept? ;)

Moosh - I think its a much more degrading finish to put them on a minimum height S&S tower and launch them just over the top so that when the car hits the top of the tower it explodes ... that whole launch off a short spike might provide some enjoyment and we don't want that for our beloved vandal now do we? ;)

I think working in the operations department for a small amount of time has given me enough insight to say the things I do. I'm no expert, and I never said I was. But 99% of the employees, full time or seasonal, in operations at SFWoA will tell you we simply aren't budgeted enough people.

Some examples:

-Running the Boomtown and Happy Harbor rides on Rotation (2 rides, 1 operator)

-Two staff members on Mind Eraser, RWB, Double Loop, Big Dipper... you know, those "popular" rides.

-Simply closing rides with "Low Priority" (BTW, I've seen the list... Better ride Time Warp and Spider on busy days)

-1 Simulator at Mission Bermuda Triangle, despite the line or attendance.

-Taking employees from other areas of the park (games, retail, boats) and training them on "Attendant" Possitions, that way they don't have to push any buttons.

Six Flags does these things not because we have bad management, but because we can't afford to hire more people.

I hear you Jes and I've seen all that happen too. BTW, it was nice meeting you this year. Good luck at CP next season and thanks for all those Batman rides!! Woohoo! :):)

Now where's my fricken' prize?!!!!

Wood - anything else is an imitation

Jes,

I think it will be A LOT easier to find you on the Raptor this year than last year at SFWoA ;)

Good luck and Kick the Sky!

I know, I'm going to have to get more prizes ready this year!

Boomtown and The Wildlife Midway are pretty obscure places when looking for one specific employee.

It has been clear for years that Premier is/was lavish on ride capital spending (when there was money to spend) and cheap on the operations spending. That is NO secret.

The REAL problem is that in 2001 SFI realized that the "new" bigger park would have to run at a larger labor budget. In fact it was increased for larger wages! It seemed at the time that SFI was turning over a new leaf! We at GLP had been waiting for an opportunity like this for five years.

But the BEC mentality took over certain park departments. Departments like Foods, Retail and Park Services had blown the EXPANDED budget by the time the PARK OPENED! As the season unfolded into the disaster it was, clearly the problem only got worse. People from a loose BEC system couldn't handle the odd restraints that came down because of their free spending ways (despite numerous warnings). In the end SFI learned its lesson all right. Loosen up the budget even a little and they will take the preverbial mile. Now you NEVER see that opportunity again.

"The problem with it was that they combined the gates. If they would have left them separate, the nosedive in attendance (and revenue) would have just stuck to the rides side."

I agree that the gates should never have been combined, but, (1) how can you run a marine park without a whale? (2) can you expect SFI to actualy show restraint and see a plan through by waiting FOR a whale so they can have two gates? Never on both accounts. Therefore you saw the worst execution of a merger i have ever witnessed.

The thing i have to take umbrage with is that the nose dive was not with the rides/SFO. SFO not only was the best season for that park ever, people turned out in droves the following year before they realized how terrible the merger went. It was SWO that was in the "nosedive" and it was their people who completed the disaster in WOA.

<<QUOTE>>#3 - They fought for the clearance so they knew what they had to work with and didn't end up like Six Flags Mexico - buy a hyper and just have it sit in pieces somewhere because you didn't clear it with the local authorities first. <<UNQUOTE>>

So if Six Flags Mexico has this hyper sitting in its lot, why doesn't SF move it to another park that could use it? For example, SFWoA, or maybe SFNO or SFKK of SFEG?

edit- for some reason the quote isn't the same setup it was before... *** Edited 1/25/2004 7:05:01 AM UTC by ShaneDenmark***

But then again, what do I know?

Only a small portion of the SFM hypercoaster was ever manufactured. The reason it isn't being built at SFEG or SFKK is clearly for spacial reasons and height concerns.

-Nate

Fair enough... Anyone know what it was going to be like? Who was building it? Just out of offseason curiosity.

But then again, what do I know?

Does anyone know, if budgets of SFWoA improve and employee treatment goes up, will the coaster be built in the next 5 years or will it be longer?
If the park has a good season without losing attendence, then maybe next year. I personally believe its the next coaster for the park. When we get it is up to corporate not SFWoA itself. So in general see how 2004 goes. But with SFInc we might not get the budget for it for decades. Okay maybe not that long.

I wouldn't hold my breath on anything that tall for a while.

Even besides the SF money issues.. there are zoning and community issues to delay it for years..

SF isnt' exactly the brightest company when it comes to investigating zone regulations around thier parks. Just ask them about thier recent land purchase down south..
