What will make you visit a distant park?

If it's in Japan. ;)

Time and money. If I had the money, I'll find the time.
I am like Brian, I usually go to Florida in winter and hit parks when I am already in the area. I do usually take one big multi-park trip a year as well, if not two, plus at least one visit to parks within a day trip, ie, Carowinds, dollywood, Lake Winnie etc. (but not Wild Adventures)

I too get a bunch of free flights, but don't always use them on theme park trips (I usually save those for the holidays)

Well considering the Phillies are out of town the week we are there, Baltimore is the only town with baseball games at home, checked Philly, Baltimore and DC

I don't let a single ride, new or old, influence my decisions on what parks I visit.

Trips I make are usually planned around travel for my job(s) or sometimes CoasterBuzz or other clubs events.

This season I'm going to PKI, Holiday World, and Indiana Beach (in addition to the usual trips to SFGAm, SFStL and WoF) and those trips are all part of work related trips or in the case of Indiana Beach, it's just before CoasterCon.

For me it's the thrill of going someplace new and more than likely, unique. You never know what you'll find in some of the most obscure places and parks. Teaberry ice cream at Knoebels or Potato Patch fries at Kennywood....smaller obscure parks often have something unique that only the locals know about that has helped the place remain popular. Whether it be a certain type of local cuisine, ride or other aspect of the local culture.

I think it has more to do with the location of the park more than anything else. It has to be in a place where the vacation will be more than just the amusement park experience. Mostly because my family really doesn't like coasters that much, and i drag them to half of the places anyway. Also, there has to be a marriot resort nearby because of our marriot time share (which if it is in a vacation-like place, it shouldn't be a problem).
If the park only cost 30 dollars or less to get in lol. These parks out here are tooooo expensive for me to go and only ride probably 3 or 4 rides lol. I'm glad my home park is kennywood and it's cheap and i can ride everything in one day. Oh and now that i work there i get in free. Life is good.

Nope ... as a Reds fan in Philly area i'd not be insulted by someone wanting to go to Baltimore to see a game over going to see a game at The Bank or The Vault. Whatever they want to nickname that place. Both baseball parks are awesome by the way.

Oh yeah on my trips I also try to add non coaster things. On the trip I mentioned above we are adding the NFL Hall Of Fame, Indianapolis Motor Speedway (if it not NASCAR week) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Watch the tram car please....
Being invited to do something exclusive, or if I'm already going to be in the area. I wouldn't really choose to up and travel far JUST for a park.
Another thing is chearp airfare, my spouse and I flew from Des Moines to Vegas for 150 bucks a piece round trip for a week, from Omaha to Philly round trip for a week was only like 165 so that works out nice for CBCon.

Now DSM has airfare to Orlando for less than 200 bucks round trip so that might mean a trip to FL in the future.

Sure the park/s are a draw, but I like the geography aspect of it too. I always try to schedule a trip that takes me to a state/s that I haven't been to either in a) a really long time or b) ever at all
This usually occurs ever other year

This year will probably be the usual suspects year though for me (SFA, SFGadv., HP, DP, with a very possible return to SFNE. I've already knocked out PKD).

This June I'm travelling from Los Angeles and visiting for the very first time SFOG, Wild Adventures, Myrtle Beach, Carowinds, Dollywood, Lake Winnie, and Visionland. Here is the reason I am visiting each:

SFOG - It is one of the few Six Flags parks I have not visited and it has a highly regarded Schwarzkopf and two woodies that look good.

Wild Adventures - honestly? For the credits. Other than Cheetah the park is full of clones I expect to ride once.

Myrtle Beach - because its in danger of closing and I love classic seaside parks.

Carowinds - Mostly for Top Gun...the rest of the credits [except Borg, which I rode as Stealth] will be a nice way to up the count.

Dollywood - who didn't rave about this park before Thunderhead? And now with the GCI [and staring at those pics while designing the 2005 calendar] this has been #1 on my list for a while!

Lake Winnie - the history, especially Cannon Ball and the Shoot-the-Chutes.

Visionland - Because Rampage is highly rated and we're there the day of the RRR event!

I will travel basically anywhere. Living in Southern WV you get used to driving more than 4 hours to visit a park other than Camden. I just LOVE to travel anyway, whether it's flying or driving.

As many here have mentioned it's the "thrill" of visiting a new park.

However, I usually try to make it a "package" trip (as in seeing how many parks I can fit into one trip, ESPECIALLY if they are "new to me" parks).

It's easier said than done sometimes, but it has been well worth it so far!

Isn't that part of BEING a Phillies fan?

No, usually it's the Philly fans (of all sports) who do the insulting.

~RGB, who if it were colder, would be throwing a snowball at you as I type.~

I actually like to drive and see the country. Getting there is half the fun they say. It never has taken too much prodding to get me to road trip, no matter how far...
