What was the ride 'The Edge' at SFGAm in the 80's?

BTW, I think I might have to fall prey to 'KCIES-13's story about someone dying. I did hear about a car sliding right off of the ride. Make sense? Maybe I'm just remembering rumors from childhood. . .you know kids!
Ride Em, Cowboy, I went to the website you said had that information. I saw what you were talking about. You could easily think it would be the Colombia Carousel. They were either referring to the A-Merry-Go-Round located by the Eagle or perhaps if PGA had a second Carousel when Marriott opened it, it possibly could have been at that park. Sorry to sound rude, but I took it as like you were confident in your statement. No hard feelings buddy.

As far as the Edge goes, no one died on the ride. Injuries yes, death no.

Cowboy, Tidal Wave (Viper) is a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop that utilizes a weight-driven flywheel propelling system to launch the train. It uses a cable, much like the aircraft carriers use to launch the jets. Tidal Wave represents one of two styles of shuttles made by Schwarzkopf (the other ones didn't have the weight-drop, and therefore don't have the cylindrical tower at the head end of the ride). It is the same thing as Montezooma's, but I have heard that Montezooma's is the best of all of them.

FYI
The first Gen. Drop rides are manufacturerd by Giovanola and sold by Intamin.

Here's a nice little article on the accident. Apparantly it was first moved to Rocky Point Amusement Park and was renamed FreeFall, and was then sold to Premier. Something else interesting was that, before this accident, Intamin did not have anti-rollbacks on their 1st Gen drops.
Ughhh! And to think of all the years that I beleived my dad. He said 8 people died on The Edge! What a liar. Well next time I got to SFGAm with him he will have no reason to tell me not to go on Giant Drop.

Jack, who can't wait for opening day 2001...
Someone close this, PLEASE. The questions have all been answered, and it is nothing but a fight now.
You can read about "The Edge" accident and the parks its been in at http://members.aol.com/rides911/edge.htm
Goose, chill, this isn't your message board over on Refreshinglook... No one is fighting.

Anyway, your dad was wrong, no one died. It's okay, though, I used to believe that when I was younger too. I guess people dying is just more interesting and story worthy than people not dying! :)

Millennium is spelled with two N's ;)
Yes i agree, this can be closed. My question has been answered.
The carousel in the back by the Eagle is not from Houston, but from Fontaine Ferry Park, a defunct park near Louisville, KY.
Correctomundo Inverted_One. Give yourself a star.
Didn't an accident happen with Tidal Wave?

No accidents occured on the Tidal Wave that I am aware of. The only other rides in the park that I am aware of having accidents is the Demon (it is still there and quite popular despite) and the Cajun Cliffhanger (SBNO). In fact the Tidal Wave is now the Viper at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Something interesting I noticed while driving around SFWoA this weekend (sorry, no pics this week). There are four or so Intamin 1st gen cars sitting by the maintenance buildings. The funny thing is that they look like they haven't been run in years and that they say "The Skyscreamer" in some 80's-esque script font. From an earlier post in this thread, someone mentioned that Astroworld had a 1st gen freefall by this name. Anyone know when it was removed and what happened to it (ie - living in pieces at Old Indiana)?
