What to do with Holiday Worlds Roundhouse site...

And the size doesn't matter. :-P

Amen, Paula ;) As Raven has proven, should Holiday World decide to add that third wooden coaster it does not need a record-breaker to be a crowd -- and enthusiast -- pleaser.

Keep the good stuff coming...you know we'll be there ;)

Wood is indeed VERY good. ;)
Heres what I see in the Steel structured woodies.

Yes, The structure will probably last many decades without any major repairs needed.

However, It seems to me the track is needing replaced or serious work much sooner than on wooden structured coasters. I blame this on the lack of flexibility built into the rides. Then again, It may just be the parks maintence practices that they are located in.

And it just looks ugly. Wood is better!
I'd recommend the KMG Move It 24, after riding the "El Nino" at the Puyallup Fair this weekend.

http://www.kmg-rides.com/

It's the most disoriented I've ever been on a ride - the only way I could tell I was upside down was when the blood rushed to my head. Very intense.

It has a small footprint but it's definitely not a family ride, if that's the demographic HW is targeting.

Hates steel structured woodies. Well I shouldn't say hate...they are just nowhere near as enjoyable as pure wooden coasters. Know what I mean? Anyway, I'm more than happy with the wood at HW now. If they were to add another wooden, I'd like to see a racer/dueling one. I'm sure one could be squeezed into the Roundhouse's site, right Paula? :-P

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
Steel structures do have their place. Wildwood and Myrtle Beach need steel structured wood coasters to prevent the salt air from ruining the structure after a few seasons. But I agree that they are generally ugly and fairly unforgiving where flexibility is concerned, and that makes them less ideal than wood structures in most applications.
The reason I was suggesting a steel structure was because I thought they might provide smoother tracking on a larger high speed woodie. Would SOB track or ride smoother if the structure was made of steel instead of wood? *** Edited 9/15/2004 6:04:57 AM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic***

No, SOB would still be a POS.
But...But...But...mOOsH, if you got new trains, SOB might be fun...:)

I perfer a full woodie instead of a half woodie myself, and am sure I'll spend more time on Swamp Fox this coming week than I will on Hurricane(assuming I don't get rained out by another hurricane...).

The records I have mentioned are not size records. All they need to do to accomplish what I've suggested is to just build a slightly larger and taller version of Shivering Timbers with a 72 degree drop and zero dead hills. That should easily be done for $5-7 million IMO. An all wood structure would be nice if it doesn't cause the large high speed woodie to have "potholes". Normally I like the wood structure better but I wonder why Mt. Olympus is using steel instead of wood for Hades?

SOB has NEVER been fun for me. It's a HOT-looking coaster that can throw you for a nice *loop* but I prefer pleasure over pain anyday, but that's just me.

Quality over quantity. :-) Uh, did I mention the size of the woody doesn't matter? ;-)

I've been on steel structured wood coasters with potholes... Great White had a nasty one on the rise into the first turn a few years ago.

Since Shivering Timbers cost $6 million back in 1998, I'm willing to bet that a larger version of the ride would cost more like $8 million in 2004 dollars.

Timbers has no dead hills when it's running good.

Compared to BD, Id take Timbers at it's worst.

Interesting. Not that I question your opinion... just interesting. It seems that Boulder Dash and Shivering Timbers have switched places during the past couple of years with BD now being the "preferred" ride. I take it Boulder Dash has yet to impress you?

Neither BD nor ST impressed me....but I *loved* the park in New England, and *hated* the one in Michigan...

Maybe it's my east-coast bias showing again? ;)

Can't be, I also LOVE those parks in Indiana, LOL...bringing it (sorta) back on topic...

Oh, and for that flat ride of indeterminate origin...the Rockin' Tug would fit in that admittedly *tight* spot. Not that I don't wanna see my KMG Afterburner though...;)

My money's still on the Rockin' Tug's bigger brother.

Funny that many CCI fans aren't big BD fans... I wonder why? Is it the fact that all of the airtime isn't very severe (as is ALL the airtime on coasters such as Cornball Express and Raven)? I guess an arguement can be made for BD having few extreme moments but that's one of the things I love about it- there are so many different kinds of air on that ride! To each his/her own, I suppose!

I do agree that the Lake is a beautiful park. It needs a small steel coaster and a few more flats (one or two classics like a Whip or Cuddle Up and one or two new ones like an Afterburner or Power Surge), then it would be practically perfect. A reborn Wildcat (Schmeck-style) wouldn't hurt either.

BD was probably the biggest dissapointment I've ever ridden as far as Ride forces. It was beautiful and fast but the ride didn't deliver. It had one great latteral air pop over the lift and then one toward the end that was pretty good but the whole return trip was. Well I can say Racer at PKI is better.

Im sure I didn't catch it on it's best day, However I visited MIA in 2001 and caught ST on a bad day and it still delivered major air on the outbound trip on every hill and a couple on the return. WHen I visited for Timbersfest in 2002 I couldn't believe that much airtime was possible and the helix was kicking arse

I think LC is the better park provided that they add a few things. But Im just happy it's open if you know what I mean.

Im not your normal coaster lover, Slam me, Shake me toss me and Im in heaven. Give me a ride that just cruises and Im Ho-Hum ride it cause it's there.

Your milage may very significantly and I aint whining cause BD beat ST in any poll, It's just my opinion. and as far as the AT poll went, I don't think Balder was on there anywhere, Was It?

Hey, If holiday world gets another woodie, go with GCI. The out of controlness of Thuderhead would be perfect at Holiday world.

With the roundhouse site I think Rob Ascough's hit it. A disk-O would fit great there.

But What I'd REALLY like to see at HW is an arcade, the one element of awesomeness they don't have.

(With DDR of course)
