what park has the best dark rides?

I'm guessing Kennywood. I mean the Old Mill, Exterminator, Noah's Ark, and the Gold Rusher are all pretty good and it's pretty hard to top that. Does anyone know of a park with better dark rides?

Depends on how dark you want it -- I've always been partial to the exquisite theming and ambience of the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean at Walt Disney World (probably childhood nostalgia and all that), and the Jurassic Park river ride at Universal is superb, but not really dark.

Disneyland has the best dark rides!

Indiana Beach has a great collection of walk and ride through dark rides as well.

Indiana Beach eh? hhhmmm could you explain what they have? I know of Disney's dark rides but I"m looking for ones that are more nostalogic (spelled wrong) and scary.

I think Holliday world has the best dark ride.

Just wait until the sun sets and ride The Raven. ;)

SFMM went from Amusment Park to Xtreme Park.They skipped Theme park :)

Indiana Beach has 3 dark rides.

Den of Lost Theives (the former Mystery Mansion). As you go through the ride, you challenge a friend to shooting targets. They are displayed on a LED screen on your car. There is also a sound track and sound effects! Great fun :)

Superstition Mountain, more of a mine ride. Some say it should be qualified as a coaster. What do you think? The scenes are a little cheesey, but a rehab might be coming to it soon.

Dr. Frankenstein's Castle - redone by the Sally Corp. in 1999. It's the walk through one. It's also pretty lengthly and features a lot of odd rooms.

Dominion and PKI have great in the dark coasters such as FOF.

Thank you, Mr. Glitch, for your synopsis of IB's dark rides. As the resident expert on Indiana Beach, I knew you'd come through.

As for "nostalgic", Mr. Spincycle45, the best I've been on is the Haunted Mansion at Knoebels - the epitome of the old fashioned scary dark ride. What a treat.

While I agree that Knoebels is home to the greatest dark ride, I believe Kennywood has the greatest collection of dark rides. They have two pre-WWII dark rides, and of those is even pre-WWI! That would be the Old Mill, celebrating 100 years in 2001 :)

I admit, though, Kennywood has never been the same without Le Cachot - a dark ride that I always rode to complete my day at Kennywood. R.I.P. :(

I loved Pirates of the Carribean before it was re-themed to be politically correct. And Disney's Haunted Mansion is always a blast.

I would say Disneyland mainly because of Indiana Jones, but I also like Pirates and The Haunted Mansion.

Another vote for Disney, they got the money to invest in spectacular effects. I hear great things about IoA though.....

Any Disney park beats any other hands down: Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror, It's a Small World (Disneyland's version)...need I say more?

what happened to Le Cachot? you mean Kennywood had five great dark rides?????? (including Exterminator) Awww man I'd love to have Kennywood as my home park.

Le Cachot was taken out for the 1999 season. It was originally going to be rethemed into the Haunted Castle, but further inspection of the building ruled that it would be unsafe. During the process of removal, a fire started, but there were no damages to other rides.

Le Cachot had been around since the 50's, I believe, originally a jungle theme, and one year it was even nameless. The next year it was called Zoomerang, and that lasted until the 60's where it was rethemed to Le Cachot ("The Dungeon"). It was really my favorite dark ride until it was removed :(.

Where was Sanfrancisco Earthquake at CP? I walked in to Lusty Lil's the last time I was there and the smell of the building gave me a flashback of the ride. Was it there or more towards the front of the park? *** This post was edited by Wabash Cannonball on 8/12/2001. ***
