I believe Kong and Earthquake are considered dark rides because they are indoors, but what is Jaws considered then? A water ride? A flat ride? I haven't been able to find a good classification for it anywhere.

Yeah, I stole from PKI. Either way, I still love the ride.

I would classify Jaws as a water ride. What would one classify Paddlewheel Excursions at CP, Jungle Cruse at MK, or those little paddle boat at varios park? Out of all of these, Jaws is the only one you get wet on.
It's a tough question.

Welcome to Six Flags Great America, home of the fastlane and delay-ja vu! We have now officially been deemed the world-wide wait!
Well Jaws is enclosed during the boathouse sequence. Still, I think "themed water attraction" would fit the bill best. It's part ride, part show, all taking place at the water level.
If you ever figure out what to call Rhino Rally an hour and change down I-4 let me know. That one's even tougher to classify.
