I rode Mean Streak just a week ago for the first time and came away completely unimpressed. I was very exited to ride it because it is a twister like Viper at SFGAM and Predator at SFDL which both give good air and are great coasters. Mean Streak delivered no air and no thrills. Oh well at least I didn't have to wait long. I think they should contact CCI and not try to break every record in the book like they usually do.
The first time i rode mean streak it was great! But the next time i went back, I rode it right aftr the millennium foce and i was the lamest ride on earth.
I rode MS for the first time in June. We didn't notice the trim brake until the 4th time we rode it and really took all the thrill out of the ride. The speed was gone. I won't say it's a bad ride, but I definitely prefer The Beast.
The Mean Streak in the front seat actually gives a smooth ride. It was even smooth before CP added the brakes on the 1st drop. However, sit anywhere else, and the story was (and still is) different. I used to love MS in the front. True, there was still relatively no airtime, but the speed and intensity of the ride made it one of my favorite coasters. Now, the ride is completely lame. The trains crawl up some of the hills (sometimes while riding it seems like the train might roll back on the 3rd hill). CP needs to get rid of this ride and put a CCI or GCI woodie in its place. CP really needs a good wooden coaster to complement the Blue Streak.
coasterpunk is right, Hercules is painful.
Love the look of Mean Streak, drove around it the first time I visited the park, couldn't wait to get on it. I don't hate Mean Streak, but I don't find it so interesting, that I would run back to get on it.
I think there are two points to be taken here: (1) Mean Streak IS a good coaster and (2) the trims and excess block breaking has taken A LOT out of the ride.
When i rode it the first year it wasn't rough at all, even though it did run faster. Also with the speed what little air there is is accentuated (sp?) In fact, i do seem to remember a good amount of air over the third hill pre-trims.
One final point, while i have spent quite some time in the past here knocking around the MS and its rep; i must say that on two separate trips to the park this year i rode MS and found it to be smoother and more interesting than it's been in years. Especially since the blocks were used sparingly on my laps.
Mean Streak isn't rough AT ALL! I rode The Beast, and it beat the crap put of me. I love rough rides, and comparing Mean Streak to The Beast shows that MS isn't rough.
A couple of points. First, Mean Streak is not nearly as rough as the Texas Giant. Front seat to front seat comparisons with Beast are about equal.
Second, parks do not install trim brakes to take the fun out of the coaster. They install trim brakes to control ride dynamics for safe operation. Trim brakes add cost to the installation and and maintenance cost to the ride. So a park would not include them if they did not think them necessary. On the other side, the trim brake may ultimately save maintenance cost on track and train, by reducing stresses caused by excessive, yes excessive, speed. And it may really save cost in bad publicity and lawsuits.
My two points.
I will be recommending your removal from this board.
