What is with the advertisements?

Why is it now that whenever I go to this site or Guide to the point there are those annoying advertisements?  They keep freezing my computer.  So whenever I try to go to Coasterbuzz or Guide to the Point my computer freezes, and I have to restart.
Coasterbuzz is supported by those advertisements.

Jeff is going to be switching soon to 100% Burstmedia Ads. The pop-up problem will be fixed then. Bigkirby, yes the site is supported by these advertisements. But most people, including Jeff, find the pop-up version extremely annoying.

All will be fixed shortly.

Something IS coming..., BEWARE!

yea, thank goodness :)
advertisements? ;)

everything's better with a banjo

Yeah, I don't see any advertisements...how odd...I wonder if it has anything to do with that $20 I paid???
Observation - I don't know whether or not this is just a co-incidence, but as soon as the CoasterBuzz Club started  I noticed a large increase in pop up ads.  I know location affects this (I am in Great Britain).
I still never get Pop up ads and have never before got them and I live near Chicago.  I think it has to do with your Internet Provider.

hmm, gee, after I paid 20 dollars to join the club and support the site I don't have to hassel with pop ads, or any other ads for that mater!
I think it mostly has to do with two things:
1) Jeff has better things to do right now than kill pop-up campaigns served by DoubleClick, which will be leaving his site shortly anyway...

and

2) Doubleclick have recently become far more aggressive with their pop-up campaigns. I guess they're on a campaign to aggravate every single user on the World Wide Web with their porn-style pop-up campaigns. So far, they've succeeded in getting two of their ad server addresses banned from my computer as a result. Consequently: No DoubleClick pop-ups or banners, but Netscape and IE are a little slow to draw pages when the banner fails to load.

Hmmm, I was just about to start a post about this very thing... These ads are insane! Every time I click a link, boom, another ad. I could see the point if they were worthwhile, but, of course I just close them all. It's more of a hassle than a way to encourage me to spend money on one of these products. If anything, it makes me want to avoid buying them! It's too 'in your face.' What's this I'm hearing about paying $20 and not getting ads?

The ads don't bother me, as I find the forums a must-visit even if they are bogged down with pop ups.  But I notice everytime I open a new thread, three indentical Casino ads pop up.

I don't expect Jeff to try and kill pop-ups, if they bother anyone, theres the option to remove them.  It does appear to be the advertisers fault though - quite frankly, they are desperate...

Are you joking? If not, on the right hand side of your screen, under the Tools menu, there is a red link that says "Coasterbuzz Club"

Enjoy :)

The ad market sucks, and this is the only way that DoubleClick seems to be able to make any money. My understanding is that they want to get out of the business of selling media all together, and concentrate on ad serving technology. That would certainly explain why they're ditching us.

Starting next week, all ads will be served by Burst Media. This is good for users for two reasons. First of all, any pop-ups they do are frequency capped. Right now, for example, if you go to Guide to The Point, you'll predictably get an ad from Colonize and one of the casinos, and that's it as long as your browser is open. The second reason it's good is that they server a lot of default ads, which means our old friend the POP Forums ad... a whole lot.

Let me make it clear, however, despite the comments above, the ads are not there to convince you to join the club. They're there to help pay the bills, period. The cash flow isn't what it used to be, so I'm doing my best to stockpile cash until we (hopefully) see some kind of recovery.

I didn't pay a dime and I don't see advertisements. It's called a pop-up stopper folks, and it's free.

Isn't this kind of like complaining that your car doesn't run unless you put gas in it?

Frankly, if you use a pop-up stopper, and you frequent this site, I consider you a thief. Maybe tomorrow I'll come into your burger place, order some fries from you, and then tell your boss not to pay you your $6.50.

I don't get why you would try to run away from the ads. If you shelled out the kind of money Jeff already has, and continues to do, I think your thoughts would change. But then again you have the right to do that, so what do I know? ;)

Something NEW is coming to the Buzz...

I don't have a problem with the ads either. In fact, I don't see ads...pop-up or banner. It's great...and free! :)

SFWoAryan, your name is pretty funny, especially to those who may have studied WWII. No insult intended, my friend.
I have issues with advertising in general. It's basically lies stuffed in your face. For instance, car ads.... You'd think everytime you got in your car, you'd be on an isolated, grass lined curvey road with no other traffic. The 405 Freeway sure doesn't look like that! Anyway, I resent the fact that it's thrown at me so ferverently.

I am, however, not opposed to paying $20 to support this site that I love so much! I plan on joining very soon!

Keep it up Coasterbuzz!
