What Is the Status of Viper at Great Adventure?

We all know that Viper at Great Adventure is not only closed, but also schedualed to be taken down & replaced by some Intamin Plug-N-Play wooden coaster.

...but, what I'd like to know is what the current status of Viper is.
> Is it being dismantled gently like Shockwave at Great America, hoping to be sold or transferred to one of its other parks...
or...
> Is it being demolished & ripped down similar to how Drachen Fire is at Busch Gardens Williamsburg?

I've seen a couple photos of it being dismantled in one part or another, but I cannot make heads or tales if it's going to be scrap metal, or a potential headache for another park.

About halfway down, Crashmando's post suggested the second option.

Also I didn't mention in that thread was that the plastic paneling on the train was all pilled up in the back area of Rolling Thunder by the turn around.

Thanks,

You mean this statement:

Also for all you Viper to DL people. I dont see it happening. I watchem them take the ass end of Viper down today with a backhoe. And they weren't careful with it at all. The metal looked ripped apart and was in a big twisted pile.

Well, maybe it was just in there really really tight like a bad car crash & had to take their version of the "Jaws of life" in order to get it out!
(a bit of hope there!)

It's an original coaster. It's a TOGO... it's just ashame to see a 10yr old coaster go. It really wasn't all that old and would make a decent fit to any park if it had a little TLC.

From what I've heard, A LOT of TLC would be needed. I'm just glad that after 6 years of no new coasters, SFDL won't be making this their new attraction...

But then again, what do I know?

From all reliable indications, NO ONE will be making Viper their "New for '06" attraction. The coaster WAS unique, but definitely one I didn't need to see copied...;)

Still, always a shame when a coaster goes away...and Viper is *gone gone*...

edit: B&M has been doing more new-ish work with inversions and layouts, it would be *too sweet* to have THEIR take on the twist-and-dive...:)

Also, I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but I don't think Viper's being demolished to make way for the new woodie -- I'm pretty sure that's going in the spot fenced off next to Kingda Ka in the old parking lot area.

--Dave, who finds it funny, in a sophomoric kind of way, that two woodies will be flanking the most phallic roller coaster of all time

Dave that fenced in area you are talking about has been fenced off since the begin of building KK.

Sure, but did anyone actually *like* this coaster? I didnt think it was the asswipe that most people did, and thought it was tolerable, but I would not go so far as to say I liked it. The ride was quirky, weird even...but I still wouldnt say I *liked* it.

I would say in the 10 years Viper was around I rode it maybe 6 times. It was very loud and very rough. The restraint system was just plain stupid and uncomfortable. The coolest part of the ride was the Q line. This is the second Togo coaster to fail in this spot in this park.

I was there yesterday for Coaster Celebration and I talked to someone who has worked at the park for 12yrs and he told me that the new coaster was going in Vipers spot when it is removed. Why would they put another woody right next to RT(rotting lumber)could it be maintenance reasons(joke)? I walked down to Viper to see what was going on and they have it all fenced off even the bridge to go to Medusa so you have to walk around by Runaway Train

This may be a little off topic, but according to a recent ACE magazine, don't expect to see Shockwave relocated.

And by the way... Viper absolutely stunk. I'm glad I won't have to look at that pain machine now.

in X somebody signature he had a link to photos of Shockwave in a big pile and being hauled away to the dump. So I don't think Shockwave will be showing up anywhere.
