What is Six Flags Great America (SFGAm) up to?

While driving past Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL yesterday I happened to notice a sign on the lawn at the entrance that says "Zoning Hearing Pending". Well I guess this means it will be big. How big? Bigger than Superman! At least 125 feet tall or higher. Anything smaller than that SFGAm doesnt need a Zoning variance for. I will try to have pictures to prove this later on in the week for all the naysayers. Until then happy rumor mongering.
It is for some type of large signage according to the filing request.

Dont they already have large signage? Seems kind of silly to me that it would be just for a sign. I am not saying it wont be. But those definitely arent the rumors going around on the street level. But since this is not a rumor site...I am not placing my bets anywhere. *** Edited 5/2/2005 12:05:13 PM UTC by beast7369***
I am assuming if it is for signage, that it would be for a new Hurricane Harbor sign at the Grand Ave. entrance.

Gurnee might have ordinances in place that restrict the size of a sign. Not so much the height but just overall size. If you take a drive through Lake Zurich, you will see that they have an ordinance like that.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

SFGAM hardly needs a 'coaster to bring in guests.'

They've already thought a little bigger than that.

Actually, a lot bigger...

Actually I was thinking right from the get go that they will have to add to the waterpark. I expect it be a much bigger than expected turn of the turnstyles for them than even they expect.
A Gemini-sized waterslide?

Riding in a train, sure! But riding my shorts?

*turns and runs away*

Let me clarify CoastaPlaya, I wasnt meaning a 125+ tall waterslide. I was just thinking there will be a need for a new waterpark attraction likely in the near future. Not necessarily tied to the zoning variance request.
Awwww, that's too bad.

CP could have always built one ten feet taller the next season and named it the Brown Streak.

I think they are way ahead of ya beast7369, I dont recall there being anything here in the original plans (pool next to building at lower part of picture), or on the park map for that matter...http://www.sfgamworld.com/gallery/04302005/SFHH_Construction3

If there's ONE lesson to be learned from HW/SS(and trust me, there's *zillions*), it's that a waterpark is a continuous FLOW of money, in and out...

Sure, they take a lot of upkeep and improvements, esp. to keep up with the "rising tide" of capacity, but they bring in money like it was being *pumped* in....the '06 addition at HW is being funded largely by Splashin' Safari...
LOL: edit before Paula catches me - I have no idea of how their internal finances work, but I have a *pretty good idea* of what draws the crowds...;)

Hehe, talk about your coincidences! SS is not separately gated EITHER....hmmmm....;)

I knew it would be sooner or later before someone on this site figured that out.

DejaVu "For those who are wondering, there is no slide in the middle of the Castaway Creek as of the 2005 plans!" The Ride

Stop looking at the ride!
here is the actual agenda from gurnee's website:

"5. Public Hearing: Variation for Six Flags Great America
(This hearing is being conducted in order to consider the petition of Six Flags Great America for a variation that would allow a sign to exceed the maximum size of a sign face. The subject property is Six Flags Great America located at 521 North Route 21.)"
