What happened to Stratospere's 750+ ft. coaster?

I will be going to Las Vegas on Memorial Weekend for my 21st birthday and i will try to hit all the caosters on the strip. I remeber hearing about Stratoshpere's coaster plans alot before 9-11 but i have yet to see or hear anything about it. What is word about it? I know that Bob Stupeck is also building the Titanic hotel or was planning to. But has money caused them to scrap the 750+ ft. coaster? or what?

Opposition from neighbors killed the idea. Of course we all know how quiet an area the Las Vegas Strip is.

well I guess in such a small quiet comunity such as las vegas strip they decided a roller coaster may add comercializam and anger the old folks who lived there there whole life and don't want change

Well all the major designing and engineering are complete it would be a wise move for an amusement park chain to buy one.

Spo really does anyone know anything about what happened to it and why its dead. I know that neighbors were complaining but Stratoshpere's management said it will continue to press on from what i have read.

There was an article here on the buzz awhile back, the neighborhood planning/zoning commision vote narrowly defeated the project...I believe at 700'+, a variance would be required just about anywhere...

Instead of a roller coaster, why not just have a big freefall? S&S Sports Power could make it. Riders enter from the top, it shoots them down, bounces and they get off at the bottom. Its an alternative to riding the elevator.

I know about that, that is the last time i have heard anything about it. Plus it stated in the article that the Stratosphere hotel was not giving up and will continue on fighting to get the veriance passed.

I read the Strat was talking about locating the ride to a different side of the building. And for those of you complaining that the noise problem shouldn't BE a problem, the Strat is NOT on the main part of the strip. It's way down past the main portion of the strip, and in a much quieter area.

Actually, when I heard of this, I thought that maybe, before Arrow built a really huge Fish hook (like this one) they should think about building a smaller version at some amusement park. (SFGAm? It's possible...)
