What Happened to Smurf Mountain?

Why did they take down this ride in '94 at KD? What was this ride anyway?

If FoF got that great of a makeover than why can't I?
It was a water powered dark ride, i do believe.

So it was a lod flume? Many have told me it was a mine train.

I am pretty sure it was just a dark ride. No big drop or anything. I know for sure that there was a water powered dark ride in there, but maybe it didn't have a smurf theme. I'm not too keen on PKD history. somebody tell us something about singing mushrooms or something. I know that has something to do with it.

Well it had to have had a drop because you can clearly see the staion of an old ride atop the Volcano:TBC que. Plus there is that curved track peice with a boat at the bottom of Volcano, near the launch. How could it get from the Top to the bottom? There should have been a drop, can anyone support this?

From the PKD legend I've heard, there were two or three attractions in the mountain 1) Time Hole (or something like that): an indoor Rotor 2) Haunted River: themed log flume. This is probably what you're seeing near the V:TBC launch 3) Smurf Mountain: dark ride. I'm not sure if the Smurf ride transformed into the Haunted River or were co-existing.

Hi All:

The mountain that now is used for the Volcano did actually have three attractions running at the same time. The Haunted River was the main attraction which was a dark log flume ride that had the final drop out of the side of the mountain. You can see the opening where the drop once was as you look from the front and dropped into what is now like a little lagoon out front. The other attraction was the Time Tunnel which was a circular G-Force stand-up, the floor dropped down and we would climb the walls. Finally there was Smurf Mountain a themed mine train that employed characters and sounds for the then popular children series. From the lift hill of the Avalanche you can plainly see the old loading station. There were many other old rides that seemed to have disappeared over the years and are not even acknowledged on this web site.
I think PKI also had this attraction where Phantom Theatre is now (at least it was a smurf ride) and the biggest drop that I can remember on it was about 6 feet. No water splash or nothing. Good ride tho.

So who built the Mine Ride?

Time Tunnel LOL, it was the Time Shaft. Smurf Mountain wasnt really a mine train. It went about 2 mph and was a kids ride. Haunted River was a pretty cool Flume ride (river ride in RCT) with one of the most killer headchoppers in history! Anyone remember Mt. Kilimanjaro? The Himalaya that was built into that tiny mountain near the FOF entrance? That ride was FUN!

What are you on about. I think we are all getting terribly confused here. Smurf Mountain wasnt a mine train ride, as far as I was aware, It was actually just a gentle train ride through the mountain where Volcano is located today, It went about 5mph. I remember this as I actualy went on it when I went to PKD in 1992(Hey, I was 12 years old OK)
There was also a Log Flume right next to it called Haunted River that also went through the same mountain where Volcano is now I think. from memory I think it was a rather short log ride, but it had a killer drop with one Awesome Head Chopper(yes thats right, a Head Chopper, Or even a Hand Chopper if you attempted to put your hands up) basiclly it was impossible to put your hands up on the final drop as it was that bad, I remember I actually ducked most of the way down.
I dont know about the one at PKD, but the one at PKI was a log flume ride where Phantom Theatre is. It was actually kinda cool (i was about 9 ok?)

Paramount's Carowinds had Smurf Island, which is in the center of the park and remains empty. It had a large playground area and this neat little Smurf Village.
