What Happend To The Waldameer Woodie?

I Live In Edinboro, About 30 Minutes South-East Of Erie, Anyways, I Am Sick Of Having To Drive Far To Ride Quality Coasters, What Happened To The Woodie Waldameer Planned? Have They Still Not Gotten The Rights To Build Because Of The Complainers That Live A Little Bit Down, Who Said That The Coaster Would Cause To Much Noise At Night, Which The Park Closes At 10, Not That Late, But What Are Some Other Reasons You've Heard About This CCI Planned Coaster?

(gasps) Well the planned woodie, Ravine Flyer 2 is at a standstill at this point(Period). At this time last year, the dispute about the coaster was big in the news(Period). Since then nothing else has come about, I know that they are still fighting it in court(Period). Even though the news said it would take a few months, things always take years in the court system(Period). So, don't count really much happening within the next few months or even next year, unless the camper owner keels over.(Period)

About the grammar, I'm not really picking on you. You just need periods at the end of sentences or else you will keel over like I did when reading your post. Its Also Not Necessary To Be Capitalizing Every Word Like This. Thank you :)

With all the crap going around on increasing Erie's tourism, I'm surprised that the local government isn't pushing for the coaster. No, instead they figure that building another hotel...or two, or three, or four will do they trick.

Paul Nelson has stated multiple times that he will build this coaster, whether it drops down the bluff and crosses Peninsula Drive or not. If he is not allowed to build the coaster in its current form, then it'll have to be mighty compact to fit at the edge of the bluff. Of course, CCI could pull a Cornball Express/Hoosier Hurricane treatment on it :)

The reason it's being held up by the courts? A neighbour of Waldameer who owns a campground and restraunt is fighting that the coaster will cause disruption to his business. He's also brought up outrageous claims that the coaster will be unsafe in crossing the road; that an accident similar to the Ravine Flyer would impossible to avoid. He's also worried about how the coaster will impede on the area's natural beauty. Yeah, not any more than those condos a little down the road OR that trashy trailer park nearby OR his own campground. So, Nelson and this guy are in the courts over the issue of whether or not it is safe to build on a bluff, even though that land has yet to be technically classified as a bluff.

The whole area leading into Waldameer Park has sort of a "tacky" feel to it. There's older motels, plenty of restaurants, gaudy t-shirt stands, a drive-in movie theater, and many other "touristy" places. I don't see how adding a coaster will destroy that area's natural beauty.

I too want to see the Ravine Flyer 2 added. Waldameer is an excellent little park with a nice line-up of rides. Their flume is very good, their Paratrooper may be the best one I've been on, their Chance Gondola Wheel offers a view that rivals CP's, and they still have 2 cheesy (yet very fun) Bill Tracey dark attractions. Their waterpark is also pretty good and is very well-maintained. The only thing really missing is a major coaster. Sure they have the Schmeck junior-woodie Comet, but a CCI would be a perfect addition for this family park. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Waldameer will be able to build this ride. It would be good for the park and the area itself.

ProgRay (who spent over an hour last summer in Erie trying to find beer, only to find out they only sell it at "beer distributors". What's up with that???)

That's Pennsylvania for you. Beer and malt beverages are sold only at beer distributors and wine and alcohol are only sold at "wine and spirit" or "state" stores.

I still don't understand the campgrounds logic but whatever. Their success is dependent on Waldameer's success. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

Having spent the first 26 years of my life living near Erie I can tell you that this battle over a new coaster isn't a "recent" thing, it's been going on for DECADES. It's a shame that a city as big as Erie can't get itself together and support Waldameer more. Erie has been really marketing itself as a tourist destination with the lake and peninsula, and I have always thought that a better amusement park on the lake would be a great way to increase tourism.

As kids my school always took us to Waldameer for our school picnic, and I looked forward to it every year. It's sad that in all this time they haven't been able to do a major expansion, simply because of some moron next door.

Then again, that's typical behavior for Pennsylvanians. A new marina in my home town was held up for YEARS because of one grouchy neighbor. Once it was built, everyone profited.

Too bad that Waldameer's neighbors can't see it the same way -- that a new coaster would really inject some life into a classic park.

Sorry RoBoDud, I always capitalize all my words, and I always put commas, lol. Anywho, CoasterCraver, I like the point you made about the hotels, I mean come on, how many hotels can you put in one town. Also, Nick Scott spends all the money that was given to him by the government of PA to build those stupid hotels. The PA government should use it on something good, to pay off those stupid people who won't leave of agree for the installation of RF2!
