Lightning Racer is the best coaster I've been on with the exception of El Toro.
Gwazi is the worst coaster I've been on with the exception of the other side of Gwazi.
So I guess they average out.
Hi
We only have five GCII coasters in Europe, of the three I've ridden - they're all great rides. Joris en de Draak is cool, because of the racing element and the 'Efteling touch' - also, Wodan is sensational - all round tremendous ride.
I think the nature of the twisty layouts mean they're less intimidating than something with huge drops.
Nothing to see here. Move along.
I think that GCI has made some great wooden coasters. Its the level of maintenance that makes them good. Thunderhead ranks in my top 5 as a 4. It ranks behind the voyage which is TGG, El Toro which is an intamin, and then phoenix is a bit of old design, with stellar maintenance. It shows in the GCI crop some top lists as enthusiasts favorites for a year or two and then disappear.
My two favorite of the three i have rode have managed to do just that. Lightning Racer is still phenomenal 10 years after i first took a spin on it. Same can be said for thunderhead. I love the layout and the train really tracks well on the course. Then for the third which is Wildcat at Hershey, it has never been a good coaster for me, and i have rode it with ptc trains and the flyers. Its just a plain mess.
The newer GCIs i have yet to ride, but it seems that prowler and gold striker do extremely well in people's opinions. So there is definately hope for GCI to still make great rides. I think it just goes into the care parks take care of the rides as they age. As for millennium flyers, they are probably the best wooden coaster trains out as far as im concerned, they have enough room, and track well from my experience. Plus they look cool with the lacquered wood and open benches.
