West Virginia to install DDR in all public schools

Interesting way to combat obesity, eh? Thought you'd be interested in this.

Long live the Big Bad Wolf

That's extremely bold sarcasm for a person from a state that evidently doesn't teach capitalizing the beginning of sentences, using apostrophes, using correct grammar, and spelling simple words correctly. That's a catastrophe of a sentence.

I am absolutely speechless...and that doesn't happen often.

Now officially a Halloween Haunt Cornstalker for Fall '08! www.freewebs.com/chadmicah
This has to be the most bizarre thing I've seen in awhile. Being from West Virginia, I never saw much of an opportunity to fatten up during the school day. I can't see how this will help out too much, it's not like everyone wants to play DDR. *** Edited 1/26/2006 3:32:24 AM UTC by TopGun***
Because I wasn't paying attention to what was being said on the TV until I heard "Dance Dance Revolution" uttered, I wasn't sure where this was happening. I applaud their efforts to deal with the adolescent obesity problems.

However, this won't solve the problems that almost all freshmen in college run into. When these kids remain eating like they do in highschool (with their high metabolisms and the assistance of this game) once they go to college, they won't have this at their disposal. Hopefully it will "hook" enough kids so that they seek out DDR machines on or close to their campuses.

I am glad that they have their priorities straight. Is that better? I did not ask for a grammer lesson for you but next time i'll be more careful. By the way, you come from the same state I do Danny!
grammar, from, I'll

;) I had to. (or is it too? two? tue?)

^Steve, been reading more than posting lately...

I've often wondered from time to time, how to write good poetry- and make it all... Work.
When will they realize that we have to change what we eat? Modern living isn't nearly as physically demanding as living was even 50 years ago. There are a few jobs left out there that require physical work like pouring concrete, moving lumber around by hand, etc. The majority of jobs now are seditary. Yes, life is easier as far as labor goes, but we pay the price in rising obesity.

Fast food and restaurants don't help the situation any. We all need to make special plans in our days to go out and exercise because we don't get that through our work anymore. It's hard to do when I have been at school or work all day and don't have time before of after dinner.

I am a VERY overweight college student and our city only has ONE session a week for adult ice hockey (the one sport I really enjoy) Cities also need to look at how much they support sports and fun athletic activities for ALL ages. If I could play hockey 5 or six times a week I would weight a lot less then I do now only playing once a week. Even with this option I would still run out of time in the week to exercise. I have two jobs, a family, and two college classes!

We don't burn the calories we used to working hard, now we are studying at school or operating a machine. Our food is so much more nutritious and there is more of it around too. I think the country needs to wake up and look at the overall picture. The DDR in schools is a good thing in my opinion because it shows that they want to provide fun things to do that don't cost a small fortune (unlike in my city!)

I've told myself for a while that I could lose the weight I had gained since graduating high school (and before, actually).

It's more about being in the right state of mind and actually being mindful of what you eat. Once I started dieting, I realized that it actually required a whole lifestyle change. I think that this fact may prevent some people from dieting properly because they aren't completely committed to it.

Although some people disagree with the method it uses to lose weight, the Atkin's diet is one of the most effective I've seen. It's also one of the easiest to know what you can or can't eat. I thought it would be more difficult to stay on it because I loved to eat bread with my meals, however, I think that was part of the problem.

Before dieting, I looked forward to eating more than I should have. Now I know that it's just food. After having that realization, it's much easier to stick to the diet...that and after seeing just how fast you can lose the weight. I dropped around 45 lbs over 3.5 months of summer break, and am down 55-60 now (which is more than 1/4 of what I used to weigh).

It wasn't personal and I would have said it to anyone that posted the exact same thing in a thread like this with such irony. If that was posted anywhere else, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. Thank you though and no offense at all. =p

I worked for the PEIA for two Springs and pretty much saw the whole project evolve from the beginning. :-) I am glad to hear it finally went through!

Actually, I convinced the lady who spearheaded the project at the PEIA to try DDR out for herself, which she became addicted to immediately. So in a roundabout sort of way I started this whole thing as a "consultant" of sorts. It started off with an interoffice email saying "So has anyone heard of this DDR?" and being that I was the only one that played it at the time I had to jump right in.

It's been about two years in the making. They brought the game in one of the conference rooms one time and several employees tried it out. They all loved it. Now if they would ACTUALLY install them in the arcades around here that would make me happy. We did have one close by but they turned the arcade into some type of art store. >:-(

The whole obesity thing is a big problem in WV indeed, especially with kids. Putting the games in schools is a great idea but I also agree they need to be taught proper nutrition as well. Fast foods do a KILLING around here.

This is good news, though! Kids love it, and like me they don't think of DDR as "exercise" but more fun than anything. I think they should put the games in all the gyms and state offices as well. ;-) State employees have a reputation for being overweight which is somewhat true, considering the Capitol Complex I worked in is surrounded by fast food places.

I usually avoid them but just like anyone else here I eat at a lot of them when on coaster trips. It's all in moderation, and kids need to be taught that as well. IMHO too many kids spend too much time in front of the TV and computer than going outside and being active. Then again, so do a lot of adults. ;-)
