Kennywood Park in West Mifflin says a recent raise of the borough's amusement tax will mean less money to spend on ride improvements.
Read more from KDKA/Pittsburgh.
For example, lets say that that they hope to gain a tax of one dollar more from Kennywood. As a result of the higher prices someone decides not to visit. Then I do not buy gas "to and from" the park (lose a dollar in tax revenue), nor do I shop for stuff at the mall that Kennywood may not have (another dollar loss), nor do I eat "to and from" the park (another dollar) and nor do I stay at the motel for my trip (another dollar lost). What was an attempt to gain one dollar, left them short four, resulting in a net loss of $3.00 for the one they were trying to gain!!
As for Kennywood harming the enviroment, lol. The Steel Industry killed off the enviroment a loooong time ago. Kennywood has done an excellent job of maintinng parks, trees and other enviormentally friendly scenery. It has restored and preserved the enviorment very well. No one will ever confuse it with being a botanical garden, but they are far from cement pavement with rides.
While I may at times severely disagree with the overall vision of Kennywood, to burden it through taxes not only hurts the residents and economy overal, but the enviroment and scenery too.

This type of liberal/big spending and over-regulatory attitude (once again I will say it is prevalent in both parties too much) will inevitably lessen the joy any of us get from amusement rides! Heck, it already has! Check out the overhead restraints on Revolution, and the old Thriller (Zooga, Zooma, Zonga or whatever the heck that call that waste of a machine now) with its pletheras of brakes!
The writing has been on the wall for a long time!
